Living a life of integrity is simply this, never failing to choose to do the right and honorable thing according to the beliefs that make up the foundations of humanity. Only those truly dedicated to this philosophy will be able to judge whether or not they merit this title. Normally, people require that a neutral party and not involved individuals have scoring power. Strangely, logic dictates the opposite rule applies to this situation. The reason for this is simply because they are the one person uniquely qualified to determine if they are the real deal or if they are full of what makes the grass grow green. Only they themselves without doubt know if they have ever took part in cruel, cowardly or shameful behavior. This negative behavior is avoided for a reason much different than is usual. For them, this behavior is avoided for personal ethics and a core belief in basic principals supporting empathic humanitarianism. Usually its the threat of punishment that is the driving force behind obeying rules. This deviation indicates an important clue as to why some lives are full of integrity, and some lifes are full of.... not integrity. So, as deterrents go, regret, remorse and self loathing are much more effective than what boils down to an empty threat. It's often said that we are harder on ourselves than anyone else could ever be. We are our own worst critics, harshest taskmasters and most sadistic of punishers. Therefore, chances are, actions that lead to further self on self abuse no longer exist. This rare and oddly strange character trait is never hard to miss. Eventally, such decent behavior begins to leave a mark, the mark of integrity. The mark of integrity bestows a strong sense of self worth and a calm belief in the abilities of those who posses it. Strength of will and determination are also typical characteristics. Whenever in public settings, a reaction people display upon first meeting a marked one is to seek approval by behaving similarly. The concepts of right and wrong are identified subconsciously , so doing anything different from someone of true integrity would look even worse in comparison and is therefore avoided.

What to do when your teenage friend has gone boy-crazy is simple but also tricky. One should be truly your friend to listen to you advise because that is all they need to hear. Advise them about the disadvantages of being boy-crazy where she could be raped or even get impregnated, make them see being boy-crazy the way you see it find ways to get them some counseling from an expert if they continue being boy crazy. Unfortunately, there's no way to do that; the best thing you can hope for is that it fizzles out on it's own. Everyone has spread a rumor at least once, and I don't think any of us takes into account how awful it is to be speculated about until it personally affects us.

The only thing you can do is act like it does not affect you. Act positive and confident, say good things about others and treat them in the manner you'd want to be treated. Be friendly but not personal with acquaintances and strangers; think about what you say about yourself and who you say it to. Steer clear of people who continually attempt to probe into your personal life. When you hear gossip about other people, say nothing about it then and don't spread it later. Let your character and your actions speak for you.

The people who have just moved into their home generally have the Housewarming Party. You can ask the hostess if you can bring food. I recommend a two pronged approach. First, outside of the classroom, try to cultivate some sort of relationship with the student. Many kids who are behavior problems are much easier to deal with when you have some sort of relationship with them. If the disrespect comes when you are giving them a directive, try saying something like "Brian, I am respectfully asking you to ****. Please do it." If you the situation allows it, you can say something like, "Brian, am I being rude to you? I am treating you disrespectfully? Then why are you treating me that way?"

The other approach is to CALL THEIR PARENTS. I don't care if they are 1st graders or 12th graders... You need to get the parents on your side. Often disrespectful kids have disrespectful parents. It's important to engage them positively when you can because then if it gets really ugly, again you have a prior established relationship with the family. i usually being those phone calls with something positive about the kid. "Brian is really a likable kid. He has so many friends! I like Brian a lot too (this may not technically be true, but...) I'm calling because I need your help. Lately in class Brian has been ***. I know you expect him to behave in school and make the most of his learning time. Do you have any suggestions on things that you use at home to help Brian remember the appropriate way to behave?" This makes the parent the expert, and sets up a cooperative relationship. It also limits the possibility of a 20 minute diatribe on how the kids is wrecking your class...

Also remember, that most behavior is NOT ABOUT YOU PERSONALLY. The less you take it personally, the easier it is to deal with it. Look for the cause and it's easier to find a solution.

It is considered rude to tell someone to shut-up so in that sense it is never acceptable. Saying "Will you please be quiet I can't hear" is a nice way of asking some to stop talking. In a dire situation, one can also say hush to get the person to stop talking quickly. Pointing or motioning to why they need to be quiet may also help them quiet down.
