She is the woman who shot/killed her preacher husband, claiming he abused her for several years. The jury found her guilty of Voluntary Manslaughter and she served a minimum sentence in a psychiatric hospital. She has three children and is fighting to regain custody of them from her deceased husband's parents. It's interesting to note that prior to the shooting, she had "scammed" several thousands of dollars from area banking institutions and was hiding it from her husband.

Since she had always claimed that Elizabeth I was illegitimate and that she, Mary, was the rightful queen, Elizabeth told her she had to give up that idea if she wanted protection. Mary refused, so Elizabeth had her put in confinement. Mary was imprisoned for 19 years, but finally was implicated in plots to overthrow Elizabeth. Parliament insisted that Mary be executed, and Elizabeth complied.

Whether Mary was actually guilty of plotting we will never know. Nor will we know whether Elizabeth was actually reluctant to have her executed, as it is claimed.

If Mary Queen of Scots had killed Elizabeth - a highly unlikely action from her perceived personality - she would have most likely enjoyed a stint as English Queen if she managed to live a substantial amount of time after the assassination of Elizabeth.

Mary Queen of Scots was seen as a Catholic threat to a Protestant throne. When Mary signed a plot paper, Elizabeth was forced to sign her death warrant as a protective measure.

Queens don"t get their hands dirty- even Bloody Mary got other people to do her blood-letting. Elizabeth signed the death warrant. the Army or constabulary took matters into their own hands, acting on Royal warrant. It is an oversimplification to assume Elizabeth ( Axed) her rival queen, literaly. By the way, contrary to two Hollywood films, the two monarchs, Elizabeth and Mary ( of Scots) never met physically.

There have been three Queen Mary's, but only two who have been actual reigning English monarchs. These were Mary Tudor, who reigned from 1553-58 and is, indeed, believed to have died of ovarian cancer.

The other Queen Mary, Mary II, reigned from 1689-94 and died of smallpox at Kensington Palace.

The third Queen to bear this name was the consort of King George V, who reigned from 1910-36. She died of lung cancer in March 1953, aged 85.
