The tail light covers (the painted bezels) are only held on by 3m Automotive, double-sided tape.

You will want to first check whether you own a Miata with a Bose Sound System or not (there should be a Bose logo on the speaker grills).

If you do not own a Bose System using an aftermarket radio adapter kit from Metra will help you wire it in very easily. Therefore, the only difficulty is removing the stock head unit. This can be done by prying off the two, small plastic covers on each side of the radio. Be careful not to mar your radio bezel that goes around the whole control center.

The removed plastic covers will expose holes so that you can use a Ford radio removal tool. Place the tool in the holes and push out sideways. This will unlock the radio, and then slowly pull the tool out while keeping outward pressure.

If you have a Bose system, it is powered by an external amplifier hidden deeper in the dash. Therefore, if you purchase an aftermarket stereo, you will also need to bypass the stock amplifier and upgrade all speakers from the Bose Stock 1/2 ohm speakers to 4 ohm speakers as well. If you are headed down this road, it is easier to simply rewire the car speakers rather than attempt to use the stock wiring for anything other than power, ground and antenna.

On the exhaust pipe between the catalytic converter and exhaust. It is basically between the rear wheels. It will be at the top of the exhaust pipe at the 12 o'clock position.

There are two ways to do it:

Removing the engine/transmission unit and do the replacement on the bench, or from under the car removing the transmission.

Several dyno runs by Miata owners have concluded that a normally aspirated Miata does not benefit from an aftermarket muffler in any way, other than to provide a more aggressive sound. Because of the Miata's low power, it was optimized as much as possible at the factory.

Several owners have purchased aftermarket intakes, headers and exhausts (this combination typically costs $700-1000), and yielded a total additional horsepower of 3-10hp.

Most noticeable gains are typically from replacing an old cat that has become fouled with age.

It is not difficult to replace at all on either models.

The Crank Angle Sensor on a Mazda Miata differs for the varying years:

On 99-05 Miatas, it is located to the right of the Crank Pulley at the bottom of the engine. It can be reached by removing the splash pan under the car.

On 90-97 models, it is on the back of the valve cover on the driver's side (assuming Left-hand drive models). When replacing it, you must also purchase a new Crank Angle Seal (just a round rubber grommet).

Under hood on passenger side, Looks like a fuse box. Open up and pull out the square green plastic boxes. Look underneath each and look for a broken link.

Disconnect the battery, remove the spark plug wires and boots, and remove the old spark plugs. Dispose to the old plugs, put in the new spark plugs, replace the spark plug wires and boots, and connect the battery.

First locate the fuse box under the hood, in front of the battery. Then use a pair of needle noise plyiers to pull the ten amp fuse out. Get your new fuse place it in slot and make sure you press it in firmly.

Yes it does have a passenger side airbag and there is no on/off switch. 99 is the first year they came with an on/off switch. You can buy a switch here -http://www.airbagonoff.com

It should be in the center console between the seats. This is true for my 1990, and since the 1990-1997 Miatas remained virtually unchanged, this should be where it is.

Put in a new fuel pump, it will save the time wasted on everything else

check your bulbs, this happens when a light bulb is burnt out

The airbag fuse is an integral part of the airbag control module and is not a replaceable part in itself. The airbag control module must be replaced.

It might be the ignition coil pack. Mine went bad. The sympton was like a dead battery. I could roll start the car and it would start fine. The problem I have now (2 yrs later) is that when it is hot, the car doesn't want to start. The engine turns over fine, but it won't start. If that's your problem, then I don't know yet. Probably something with the fuel line.

I just bought a keyless remote for a 2002 Mazda Miata. I bought the car from a dealer and the remotes were missing. The keyless remote came with instructions as follows. However they did not work for me and I never got the buzz sound at the end of step 4 d. I am now wondering if my Miata actually has the remote module system installed? If anyone can tell me how to verify or test the remote module system it would be appreciated. Anyway, if the folloing works for anyone I would be pleased to learn of it. 1. Begin with all keys out of the ignition. 2. Close all doors. 3. Open drivers door and leave open. 4. Perform the following steps within 24 seconds. a. Insert key into ignition and turn to ON (without cranking the engine). b. Turn key to OFF and remove from ignition. c. Repeat steps a. and b. two more times. d. Push driver door frame button three times. 5. Buzz sound or chime should be heard at this point signalling that the vehicle is now in programming mode. If not, then wait 40 seconds and return to step 4. 6. All transmitters need to be programmed at this time, including the old ones. Push any button on the first transmitter two times. A chime should sound signalling that the vehicle has accepted the new transmitter code. a. IF THERE IS ONLY ONE TRANSMITTER, press any button on the same transmitter twice until a chine sounds. Repeat this step one last time with the single transmitter for a total of three programmings. b. IF THERE ARE TWO TRANSMITTERS, press any button on the second transmitter twice until a chine sounds. Repeat this step one last time with the second transmitter for a total of three programmings. c. IF THERE ARE THREE TRANSMITTERS, press any button on the second and third transmitters twice (one after the other) until the chime has sounded for each of the three transmitters. 7. Push driver frame button one time. Two buzz sounds or chimes should be heard at this point signalling successful progamming. 8. Test transmitter(s) for function. Good luck.

It's located in the fuel tank, which can be accessed inside the cabin, underneath the parcel shelf (where the soft top rests when down). Remove the carpet, and fuel tank shield held by multiple 10mm bolts. The oval cover underneath is connected to the fuel pump.
