Hello - Its difficult to say what could be wrong hun. You may be experiencing irregular heavy period bleed or if there was a chance you was pregnant, it could be a miscarriage. I really dont know. I am assuming that you are talking about blood in your urine. It's unlikely that straining to urinate caused the bleeding to occur. Most likely it's a sign of a bladder or kidney infection. The swelling from the infection can make it difficult to urinate, and the infection can also cause some blood in the urine. You'll need antibiotics to clear up the infection, and you'll definitely want to take care of it sooner rather than later-- if it's just in your bladder now, it can spread to the kidneys and lead to fairly severe pain in the lower abdomen and back.

I've heard it can be like a normal period, and that its just part of the uterine wall shedding as the placenta has not attached yet and that it's typically not harmful to mom or the baby.
