Where is the PCV valve located on a 1998 Mercury Mystique?

The PCV on the 2.0L Zetec is under the exhaust manifold. If you look at the thermostat housing, there is a steel hose that runs underneath it. Follow that down under the exhaust manifold. It can be changed if you know how to do it with out taking off alot of stuff.Depending on flexibility and hand size, the average person can reach the PCV from underneath the car. Reach under the exhaust manifold, between the catalytic converter and block - PCV is in plain view from here. Otherwise, you'll have to remove the heat shield above the manifold (horizontal across front of engine below valve cover) and catalytic converter from the block as outlined in the Haynes repair manual.

just remove thermostate housing and there is a bolt holding the meatal tube going to the pcv. need 10 mm and a 3/16 Allen wrench

Why do your 2000 Mercury Mountaineer smells like something is burning sometimes?

Many times the problem is a valve cover gasket(s) that has leaked oil onto the hot exhaust manifold underneath it. When you have stopped in traffic, or if you are on a hill, etc., the oil that has leaked has a chance to run down on the hot manifold and smells like rubber or oil burning. Most of the time this is just a nuisance but it should be repaired if is bad enough to the point you can smell it in your car or truck.

IF on the V6 engine: then according to Haynes repair manual, besides the usual 'disconnect battery, remove belt, etc', you have to REMOVE the Right Front Axle (VERY TEDIOUS) , AND unbolt the exhaust Y-pipe (usually rusted). Whole process looks tedious, compared to old, easy access, right-up-front alternators (pivot bolt and tensioner bolt)

Where is the turn signal flasher unit located on the 1997 Mercury Mystique?

The real answer to this is that the turn signal flasher unit is attached to the back of the turn signal assembly. Remove the bottom half of the cover surrounding the steering column. There are 3 screws holding that cover in place. You will see the flasher ( a 1 inch black cube ) attached to the back of the turn signal arm. Pull it out and then push on the new one. It took me about 2 hours to find this stupid thing, so i hope you read this and save some time. The actual job takes only ten minutes to do. Also, this part controls the 4 way flashers and brake lights. As soon as I replaced this item, everything worked fine.

AnswerProbably in or near the fuse box
