Are o scale Lionel trains compatible with Atlas o scale items?
The answer is yes. Lionel and Atlas O scale trains are 100 percent compatible. You differentiate model and toy trains according to their scale and their gauge. "Scale" relates to the comparative ratio of measurements between the model and its full-size counterpart or prototype.
"Gauge" the second aspect of a model's size, refers tp tje space betweem tje rails of the track, For O gauge this measurement is 1 1/4 inches. These same models are built to a ratio of 1:48 so a 50 foot long real (prototype) locomotive would be 12 1/2 inches in length on the model.
Atlas model trains will run on Lionel track and vise-a-versa. The two companies also use the same style and type of coupler along with the same hieight for holding their trains together. I hope this helps and if you need more information e-mail or call me, thanks.

What size track does model train gauge on3 run on?
0n3 .. that's O scale (1:48) running on .75 in gauge track (1:48 = 1/4" = 1ft.) ... On30 runs on HO track (meaning that HO track represents 30" track in O scale)
Is it true that the first transcontinental railroad was funded with government money?
It was partially funded by government grants of land along the route. The railroad companies had to sell the land in order to receive the money. The railroads thus funded were required to pay back the government by giving discounts on shipping of government goods until the 1940s when it was recognized that they had "paid back" far more than they had originally received.
What model train was used in the movie Ghost and the Darkness?
I did some research and found that the train was made only for the movie and is not available for public sales. The website I was on said the train is located in the US archives. - under the Smithsonian museum.
Watts are a unit of power, so you know how much power the unit will draw when it is "on." More details on that later. First, you are billed for electricity in kilowatt-hours (KWH). (Look at your latest bill to see how much you are charged per KWH. It probably varies: so much for the first so many KWH, then a different rate for each KWH over the first threshold.) Next, a kilowatt-hour is 1,000 watts times one hour. To run the 1500 watt heater for eight hours (assuming full on, but more details on that later) would consume 1,500 times 8 divided by 1,000 = 12 KWH. Compare that to your electric bill to estimate how much it would cost. Finally, if the heater has a thermostat, it will not be "on" all the time. When the temperature around the unit rises above its thermostat setting, the heating elements will turn off, so it will no longer consume its rated power. While in this mode, main switch on but heating elements turned off by the thermostat, it wil draw some power, but only on the order of miliwatts (thousandths of a watt). It is not possible to predict its "duty cycle," how much time it will be "on" as a fraction of whole time, without either a) some impossibly complicated engineering formula and equally impossible to get figures regarding the size of the space it is heating, how drafty it is, how well insulated it is, and the ambient temperature outside the space; or b) try it out and time how long it is on and how long it is off over the course of a couple of hours. Anyway, the power rating in watts times the length of time you expect to turn it on per month divided by 1000 will give you a maximum figure for how many KWH it could possibly use. Actual consumption will be somewhat less, but impossible to predict.

How did model train scales get their letters?
The O gauge was a zero - and so "smaller" than 1 gauge.
HO was "supposed" to be "half-O" but not quite.
In the 1940's there was quite a battle over what scale HO should be, and you'll note that British HO runs on HO tracks but is bigger than US HO.
S was supposed to stand for "standard" - but nobody but Gilbert used it.
Smaller than HO was another fight ... but I never followed it.

Can you use any ho transformer for a ho train set?
As long as the transformer is capable of 12 Volts DC output, you can use any transformer with HO scale equipment.
Jenna wants to make a park bench as part of her family's miniature railroad train display. If the display is built to scale where 2 cm = 1 ft, and Jenna is modeling her bench after a bench with a length of 6 ft, what will the length of Jenna's model be?
What was the first Lionel train?
The first Lionel train was the electric express. The electric express was basically a small sigar box with wheels and would roll on a track. It was made to display products in the store window.
What kind of transformer do you need to run a ho train with 30 feet of track?
You can't use a transformer.
HO models all run on DC current, AC will destroy them.
You can buy HO power supplies, and for 30 ft of track almost any one would do.
