How long can you let a 1 year old have asymptomatic diarrhea before seeing the pediatrician?

Depends on how long it has gone on, I guess. More than a week and he/she may need an antibiotic for a bacterial infection. My almost 2-year old has had diarrhea for almost a month and they have yet to find anything in any of his four stool samples. He is asymptomatic also, but without a small amt of immodium he would be on his little potty chair all day long. I would hate for you to go through weeks of diarrhea if he needed medicine.

Are there any dress requirements for pediatricians such as uniforms?

It really depends on the specific physician. I, for example, usually wear nice pants and a polo shirt at work - I have been a clinical pediatrician for over 25 years. Dome docs prefer a tie. One item children do not like is the notorious white coat. RBB, MD

Who discovered bacteria as the cause of child birth fever?

Ignaz Semmelweis discovered how to prevent childbirth fever, rather than its specific cause. Although Pasteur's germ theory of disease had not yet been developed, Semmelweis noticed that there was higher mortality from childbirth at the maternity clinic than among births in the street. He concluded that medical students who were conducting autopsies were carrying some unknown cause of disease from the cadavers to the mothers who gave birth. When he insisted that all who attended the childbirths first wash their hands in chlorinated lime, the incidence of childbirth fever was reduced dramatically.

Why has the doc ordered a cat scan because my 6 month hold's head is growing faster than it should.?

For my nephew it was hydrocephalus (water on the brain). He was a premie and they said it was probably caused from an injury when he was so small and the head is so sensitive. He had to have a drain tube put in that shunts the fluid from his brain to his stomach. They have to watch that and it will have to be replaced as he grows. Otherwise he is a very bright, normal 3rd grader and all is well. You can find a lot of information by running a search on the word. (Warning, there is another type of hydrocephalus that is much more serious than his, but I believe it is a birth defect that has much different symptoms) Hope this helps

Baby hives, also called urticaria, can have different causes, including allergic reactions to a food like milk, sunlight exposure, infections, and certain medications.
