PPI stands for pixels per inch or image resolution. In other words how many pixels per square inch are distributed horizontally and vertically.

Softening, you can soften edges of selection using Feather command from select > Modify > Feather or From Refine Edge dialog Select > Refine Edge. Feather also appears on Properties panel in Photoshop CS6 or Masks panel in previous versions to soften edges of pixel based or vector mask (you must select mask on Layers panel first).

Photoshop is professional image editing software designed by Adobe for professionals. Adobe has absolutely no reason or obligation to provide this software to you or the general public for free.

I'm not 100% clear on what you mean by "upgrade it later". There's no difference (other than price) between the Adobe's "educational license" software and the retail versions.

You can't get Adobe's upgrade plan for software you buy at the special educational price, but the software itself is supposed to be identical to the full version... you don't need to upgrade it, unless a new version comes out, and even then the educational price is generally pretty similar to the cost to upgrade from the previous version.

The erase tool in Photoshop will allow a person to remove parts of a photo. Also using the select tool and then clicking Delete will remove part of the photo.

I read about it in a book somewhere and i think it went something like this: Go to enhance, click on color adjustment and then replace the color. I'm sorry if i didn't give you enough. :[ I'm just trying my best.

Never mind, well I figured it out, this was me just being really dumb. Instead of selecting to export as a JPEG I selected to export as original. well to be exact it was preselected and I just didn't notice. I went through a lot to try and fix this too...

It is palette where are stored all layers you have in document, on this palette you have options to change opacity of layer (right upper corner of palette, slider opacity) or layer blending option (left upper corner - drop down list) at bottom of palette you have more options through small icons like add drop shadow, make new layer, group layers to organize them or delete layer pressing wastebasket icon.

Using Crop tool you can crop image and increase resolution. Activate Crop Tool then type dimensions and resolution in tools options bar (just below menus) in Width, Height and Resolution fields then drag over image with Crop Tool to select area and confirm on check mark in tools options bar or by pressing Enter/Return. In Photoshop CS6 after activating Crop Tool click on Unconstrained on the right side of Crop Tool icon in tools options bar and choose Size and Resolution. In Crop Image Size & Resolution dialog type dimensions and Resolution or just type Resolution, confirm on OK then use Crop Tool.

It depends on the configuration of the Laptop (and also the version of Adobe Photoshop) you are using. If the processor is Dual Core or C2D, with 2+ GB of RAM, then it should be fine to run Photoshop CS2. Anyway, Photoshop and other multimedia tools are processor & memory intensive programs, and also run a lot of background processes so the system should be a bit slower.

You can do everything you can imagine with your photographs,many sites with tutorials,lynda.com have comprehensive library of tutorials.Only disadvantages I know is lot of RAM consuming(at least 1 GB requirement) and need OpenGL to use all features photoshop can offer
