put your car on blocks and look right underneath your manifold, and right at the back of the engine is your starter it is about half way down.....or look at your shaft coming out of your transmission going to your tire and look right above that in the middle of the car....hope this helps
Is it bad to seal a leaking transmission?
Absolutely not! The fluid in your transmission is vital to its performance! No fluid... no work right! So, keeping the fluid in your tanny at the proper level is most important for its survival!!
How do you fix a transmission leak - you think it is the seal?
The tranny pan is located at the front right of your car. You will have to drain all the oil from the pan. You do that by jacking up the car in the front then unscrewing the rear bolts in the pan until you are able to drain all the fluid from the pan (you might have to unscrew other bolts to make this possible). Here is where you will make a decision. To do it right or make a quick maybe time consuming mistake. You can after draining the oil and cleaning the area put some instant gasket on the area that was leaking and hope it don't leak again or you can do the job right, and repalce old gasket with a new one. It will cost less than $20.00 and is well worth the problem of doing this again some time in the near future. If you want to fix it correctly remove all of bolts from the pan, scrape the gasket peices off the pan and the block, wipe clean the inside of tranny pan and remove the magnet and clean that also (make sure you put it back in the same place you got it from, around the little bump. Get some gasket sealant or something to hold the new gasket in place while you hold the pan and put back the screws. Snug tighten them first then basically tighten with low tork. Not like you would do with lug nuts, but slightly tighter than by hand. Replace with appropriate tranny fluid (add 1 quart of lucas to make fluid more slicker, helps keep oil on metal parts)and check levels with car running. I hope this was helpful to you. Good luck! What safety features did a very early car have-if it had any?
Brakes. That's about it.
I found this on another website and found it quite helpful, good luck, especially if your doing your science in the news!!!!
1. In 1910 the number of American traffic deaths were around 25 times what they are today when adjusted for the number of drivers on the road. The first such death occurred in 1899 when a pedestrian was struck and killed by an electric taxi in New York City. For a public used to other forms of transportation, automobiles were sometimes looked at as dangerous novelties, and these fears had to be managed before cars could be sold on a mass scale.
Fenders
2. In the 1910s John O'Leary responded directly to the high number of traffic deaths by inventing a device known as the O'Leary Fender. Built from a wire mesh rather than rigid metal, the O'Leary Fender would flex when it contacted a pedestrian, sparing them injury. Despite working in theory, the O'Leary Fender fared poorly in real-world use and was never widely adopted.
Bumpers
3. One of the earliest car safety devices that did work well was the automobile bumper. By simply affixing a flexible metal bumper, a car and its occupants could be spared the full extent of the force generated in a collision. This kept cars safe in minor accidents and protected riders in more severe situations. Today's federally mandated crumple zones and impact-absorbing bumpers are direct descendants of this early success story.
Safety Glass
4. Safety glass, which is coated with a plastic substance to prevent it from shattering even when it breaks, was invented in the early 1900s. Once it went into widespread use on cars in the 1920s, safety glass became a major form of auto safety equipment. Many cars were retrofitted with the new glass and eventually the US. Department of Transportation began certifying glass as approved for use in automobiles.
Other Safety Equipment
5. As early as 1913, Ford's Model T was available with a safety tool kit. The kit contained a rod for measuring the fuel level, as well as a jack and tire repair kit. Other forms of early car safety equipment were effective in the few cases where they were actually used. The first turn signal, which included a stop light, was patented in 1929. This was much more effective than the reflectors that had been used earlier to make cars more visible at night. However, turn signals didn't begin appearing on most cars until the late 1930s.
What safety features does a modern car have that an early made car doesn't have?
5 mph bumper Seat belts collapsable steering column Padded dashboard Passenger safety cage Air bags reinforced door panels Nader door pins
