Would a v8 trans am engine fit in a v6 firebird?
yes, you just need to get new V8 engine mounts welded on the frame and have the old V6 ones cut out.
you will also need a new fan shrowd and if its going form a chevy v6 to a pontiac v8 you will need a new wire harness new battry tray.
What advances the timing on a 1986 Pontiac Firebird 2.8v6?
timing is adjusted by the ignition module and feed back from sensors
What is a second gear starter switch for on a 98 firebird?
since the car is rear wheel drive the 2nd gear start is used for when you are in snow or somewhere slick you turn that on and it will give you more power to get out. i had one never found it very useful
Can you put a third generation firebird transmission into a second generation firebird?
Anything can be done with enough work. However after 1981, f bodies had chevy engines rather than the Pontiac. The Chevy trans will not bolt to the Pontiac block willingly.
What is the torque lbs for a 1987 350 out of a Pontiac firebird gta please?
I have an 88 firebird with a 305 V8 with a 3 inch custom exhaust and it pushes around 350 so my guess would have to be somewhere around 300 hp it kinda depends on what else is in the car.
How to get the ASC Build number for 2002 collector's edition trans am?
The special yellow plaque inside the car indicates the ASC build number. It is on the centre console, exact location depends on how the car is optioned - T-top vs convertible, auto vs standard, traction control or no traction control.
Musclecargt71: No such plaque exists from the factory. The yellow plaques you see in pictures are aftermarket, custom made when you know your number. So no....there is no interior, or exterior for that matter, way to determine the number.
All on one circuit - check the fuse for parking/tail lights

Exceed - To go beyond something or to surpass; To be superior at something.
1998 firebird wipers stuck on the up position when off what's wrong?
Sound like the delay sending unit is bad (see link). http://www.am-autoparts.com/AM/Switches-and-Levers/Pontiac/Firebird/-/AM-64109149/?utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_source=ShoppingComSF It could also be the wiper motor but this is the cheaper option.
Where is iat on 1999 firebird?
I believe its located where your induction system is. look by the radiator, then go upward and it should be the closesr one to you on the right side.
Do 400 small block engines have heat issues?
No it did not, But it did like to spen rod bearings at high RPM. Oiling problem
What do you do if a lot of white smoke is coming out of the muffler?
Use fuel system cleaner, if it doesn't help you could have a problem with the cadalidic converter or the head gasket.
This could be because you have coolant burning inside the combustion chamber(s). If you are leaking coolant, but cannot find the leak i.e. no puddles, then it is probable that your head gasket is leaking, your head is cracked, or both. If you are handy with tools, rent/buy a compression tester. If you have low compression in two adjacent cylinders, you probably have a blown head gasket. Not an easy fix. Sorry to say that.
You may be able to get a solution from AAP that can fix the head gasket leaks. I do not know what the brand name is but they say it works. Just drain the coolant, rerun the solution through, flush and add fresh coolant. I have never tried that though.
Good luck.

How does the wiring work for pop-up headlights in a 1986 Pontiac Firebird?
99.9% of the problems associated with headlight problems for you guys is NOT related to the nylon gear failure! You guys are fortunate in that your problem can likely be fixed with less than a buck's worth of supplies from a common place such as Home Depot or any hardware store. In the 4th gens, the shaft which turns to raise and lower the headlight is connected to the gear via a rubber piece which sets in the gear itself or, in the case of brass gears with no rubber, the shaft is actually connected via tabs to the brass gear. In the 3rd generation Firebirds, this actual physical connection doesn't exist. Instead, in each light are located three hard "pucks". These pucks provide the mechanical connection between the nylon gear and the shaft which raises or lowers the headlight. Over time, these pucks will actually disintegrate into small granules and dust! The very good news for you guys is these pucks are nothing special. You can use just about anything you can get your hands on that is the proper size and will fit in the areas these three pucks "used" to be located at. I recommend using a thick rubber hose or tubing of the proper diameter and length (1/2" outside diameter and about 1/2" in length) but I have heard of one guy who didn't want to go out and buy anything but had a hot glue stick laying around so sliced off some pieces of that instead! I don't recommend that though since I don't know how long the glue stick will last in there :) Instead, slice three 1/2" pieces off your hose/tubing and drop them in place where your pucks used to be located. Once you do this you can put your light back together and you'll be good to go! Total cost for this fix is about $0.12 or there abouts :)
take out your headlight motor and open it up. If you see a bunch of dust and granules in there you will probably also find your gear to be just fine and all you need to do is perform the fix I mention above. Good luck and consider yourself lucky you don't have the expense the 4th generation guys have!
I found this thru a website and just cut and pasted it for everyone to use. I am going to try it this weekend and I hope it helps you. The website is

The word "Firebird" was an identifying model of auto from the Pontiac Motor Division. The body design was exact to the Chevy Camaro (both cars are made by GM). The more outstanding design was the addition of a hood decal of a flaming firebird on top, and a rear trunk winddeflector or spoiler that would create downforce when at speed.Varying models would come out in economical cars (like today's) up to the high performance street/race models. Years of models are roughly from the late '60s to themid '70s, before the first gas crisis. For an excellent view of a Pontiac Firebird, get the movie of "Smoky and the Bandit"with Burt Reynolds.
The key lock and the electric motor are two separate items they are conected by a lever. It sounds like the lever is binding
sounds like a bad key tumbler
Why is your 97 firebird overheating?
More than likely the thermostat is stuck closed or staying closed too long. If it is truly stuck closed, coolant will overflow out of the the reservoir tube as the engine begins to overheat, however if it heats up and sometimes cools off the thermostat could be failing.
The thermostat is located beneath the waterneck where the upper radiator hose connects atop the engine. Two bolts will remove the waterneck. Expect 1 pint or more of coolant to backup through the opening when removed. Drain some of the radiator using the drain plug on the bottom of the radiator, or put a large drip pan beneath the car, expecting the engine to get wet. FOR THE LOVE OF ALL, do not let the distributor get wet...its on the front of the motor beneath the water pump.
Additionally, there is an airdam affixed to the underside of the front bumper. This acts a diverter for the flow of air into the radiator. If this piece is severely damaged or removed, the radiator will fail to cool the engine properly.
