Depends on the model. Espaces are produced in 4 types. Phase 1,2 and 3 were produced by Matra and have plastic body panels. Phase 4 are largely metal bodies (so a lot heavier) and built by Renault themselves.

Pahse 3 & 4 have conventional McPherson struts - removed like those of most other cars, but the top mounting bolts are hard to find on the Phase 3 - look in the chamber that also houses the pollen filters, accessible through a metal "hatch" high up in the engine bulkhead.

Pase 1 & 3 models are scary! the struts can't be removed until the spring is compressed (because they have no separate top "cap") this means he spring has to be compressed in-situ ie while inside the front wing. Renault have a hard to find special tool to do this - I have done it myself using the right type of universal spring compressors - but you need to know what you are doing. The springs are short- so very high forces are required. If the tool slips you could loose your fingers, hand or head!

camshaft has two timing marks one on the inside of the cam sprocket and one on the outside. the inner one lines up with the pointer cutout in the rocker cover the outer one should be at 45 degress back from tdc. diesel pump has a pointer in the cover and the crankshaft mark is under the serpentine belt pulley (you need to remove this to see it)

HI ! I HAVE A 95 ACCENT. IT GOT HIT ON THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE. NOT LONG AFTER THAT THE DAMAGE LED TO THE HORN SHORTING OUT AND ME GOING DOWN THE STREET GOING "MMMMMMNNNNNNNNNAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH !! " ALL THE WAY. SO I KNOW.... THE HORN IS LOCATED UNDER YOUR DRIVERS SIDE TURN SIGNAL. I THINK THE EASIEST WAY TO REMOVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE SIGNAL LAMP, THAT WAY YOU CAN EASILY REACH TO IT.

The diagnostic port connector is in the "fusebox" - which contains one of the cpu's underneith the front passenger side footwell, the near vertical part eg where the pedals would be for the driver. Lift the carpet and undo the cover you find there. It's a CAN bus. awj99@yahoo.com

Assuming you mean "coolant" not water, if there isn't a drain valve on the radiator, remove the lower radiator hose and use a large/wide drain pan to collect the coolant.

Dissarm air bags, slide it along its track to find torx mounting bolts - four of them. Remove these and unplug the airbag wiring.

Obtain a long-reach Philips head driver. Lift the bonnet. Over each headlight you will find a pair of holes - each around 1cm diameter. Poke the screwdriver through for about 20cm and it should engage with a Philips head screw. There is one screw on each side for up/down and another for left/right.

Hi, i own a 2006 espace 2.2 dci auto. I bought it last year september in very good condition and low mileage. I flew down to go and collect it. I found no problems taking it home. After 24 hours of travel i noticed the " check injectors" light came on. I immediately booked it in at a renault garage. For 4 months they basically stripped the engine down because " check injectors" continuously lights up. They changed the egr valve, turbo stuff and even went through the actuall injectors...... Nothing. To answer your question - it was a loose piece of catalytic convertor mesh that broke loose in the exhaust box that would roll around and block up the exhaust and then cuts off the turbo which sends the " check injector" lights on. Since they repaired that, i never had that problem since. That was a year ago. Happy driving. William

It is by the drive shaft.

It is unlikely that you will need a new engine but it will be an extensive overhaul I would expect. Almost certainly all the inlet and exhaust valves will need replacing which means having the cylinder head off. You will probably find some marking to the piston crowns but that is generally minor. Normally it is a fairly routine job to regrind the valves and re-assemble. The critical part is getting the timing right on everything when fitting a new cam belt. Also check the type of cam belt before replacing it as, depending on the age and model, the cam belt can have different shaped teeth - early models had rounded teeth, later ones square teeth and the belts are not interchangeable.

My espace is a mk4, and i have no head light adjuster in the cabin, the headlights adjust automatically with load in the vehicle or if you have a trailer or caravan on. The adjustment is done by a sensor linkage on the lower wish bone on the front near side

My understanding of exhaust smoke is that Blue is oil, Black is unburnt fuel, White is unburnt diesel on cold start. The main question would be, how much smoke and when does it do it?

Removing the alternator is not too difficult providing you know roughly what you are doing. The alternator on a 1993 L reg diesel is located on the front left hand side approx halfway up the engine. It is easiest if you remove the battery to allow easier access to some of the fixings. It is also necessary to remove the fan assembly and loosen off the mounting bolts on the radiators so that the rads can be shifted forward as one of the main support bolts for the alternator (a 5" to 6" long bolt) has to be removed by taking into the space between the radiators and the alternator (a space approx 2" wide). This info was not in the fiddlers manual. Access then is fairly easy if you have the requisite number of arms and the flexibility of an octopus. Refitting is the reverse of the above and I would use a fiddlers manual to supplement this tip. It took me 3 to 4 hours fiddling - there might of course be another way but this worked for me. There is very little online info available. There are also several different serpentine belt configurations. I take it you are talking the G8T 2.2 litre turbo desil with aircon? This has a springloaded tensioner on the belt. I can send you the right diagram if you give me details awj99@yahoo.com

The first thing to check is that engine coolant / anti-freeze levels are not low.

Very likely there's not enough and the heater core runs empty as the coolant rushes to side of the engine during turns and cornering.

on a mk3 Espace the ECU is bolted on to the drivers (left) hand side of the bulkhead and is enclosed in a grey coloured box with clips.

Turn off power. Press accel pedal to floor. Turn keys two notches. While pressing the accel press brake three times. Depress accel and turn off keys.
