From the Miriam Webster online dictionary empirical means: 1 : originating in or based on observation or experience 2 : relying on experience or observation alone often without due regard for system and theory 3 : capable of being verified or disproved by observation or experiment AND - From a Psychology dictionary : Derived from naturalistic observation of from experimental procedures. Empirical evidence is evidence from observations. From my understanding it can be through naturalistic observation (the in depth observation of a phenomenon in its natural setting) or Experimental (maniplulating an independent variable to observe its effects on a dependant variable). Experimental evidence is much more reliable as naturalistic observations are vulnerable to researcher bias. Empirical evidence is a fancy way of describing facts that can be experienced and tested only through the senses. I suppose you can only compare that to mathematical or logical facts, which depend on reasoning alone (as in the solution of a quadratic equation, for example). Different types of `truth' are discussed by philosophers such as Aristotle, Kant, and Descartes, and the theory of knowledge is sometimes described as `Epistemology.' It's one of the most contentious areas of philosophy, particularly with reference to science and social sciences. epw (B.A. in Philosophy) Scientific evidence is considered empirical when it can be observed by many people and all will agree as to what they observed. An example would be reading a thermometer. No matter who observes the thermometer, it still displays the same temperature. The counterexample to this is physically sensing warmth or coolness. Observer A might sense that a room is warm, while observer B senses that the same room is cool. These observations differ depending on the observer, and are therefore considered subjective. Evidence that is not dependent on the observer (i.e., is objective), that appears the same no matter who observes the evidence, is considered to be empirical evidence. dcs (PhD in Nutrition, research neuroscientist) Empirical evidence is evidence acquired by observation.
What are the scientific methods?
The scientific method involves coming up with a hypothesis. It also involves conducting research and deducing inferences from the findings.
Enumerate the four different scientific methods?
know the problem, gather facts and datas, make experiments and observation, hypothesis and conclusion
What was the goal of the scientific method developed by Bacon and Descartes?
The goal of the scientific method developed by Bacon and Descartes was to establish a systematic approach to acquiring knowledge through observation, experimentation, and logical reasoning. They emphasized the importance of empirical evidence and rational thinking in understanding the natural world. Their methods laid the foundation for modern scientific inquiry.
What was the Philadelphia Experiment and what were its results?
The Philadelphia Experiment is a myth. It never happened. Supposedly it was an attempt to turn warships invisible which resulted in severe disruptions of the space-time continuum with people disappearing and reappearing at different places and times or being physically merged with parts of the ship. I want to emphasize again though that none of this ever happened. Michael Montagne

What are the similarities between quantitative research and qualitative research?
Quantitative research entails collecting and generating numerical data while qualitative research entails the generation of non-numerical data. Survey, questionnaires and measurements using various tools are common in quantitative research. Qualitative research often relies on verbal and theoretical data rather than measurements. Both research designs are used in the analysis and interpretation of a research topic.
The automobile. Never in history has a machine this complex been given and operated by the general public to operate and repair.
What are examples of complex machines?
Complex machines are made up of simple machines, and there are a lot used in our daily lives. For example, scissors are made up of levers and a wheelbarrow contains a wheel and axle, screws and a wedge.

How did Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes each approach the new scientific method?
They both contributed to the Scientific method. Francis Bacon did this to make sure that they did not having false thoughts/teachings. Descartes said to gain knowledge to follow those steps. They helped create a new approach to science. Over time, people started calling this new approach the scientific method.

How does it differ from the methods used by scholars in medieval times?
Well i think the scientific method involves careful observations of nature and, in some sciences, controlled experiments. So i had one part u have to figure the next part by your self..
What is the relationship between a hypothesis and a theory?
The relationship between theories, concepts, and hypothesis is that a theory is a model of how concepts are related, the concepts are categorical ideas that are represented by our variables and hypothesis are predictions of how concepts are related, often deduced from a theory.

What is non-experimental research?
Non Experimental Research. Involves studying naturally occurring variation in the dependent and independent variable without any intervention by the researcher.
