How do you help a self harmer?

Just 'be there' for them. Let them know that, if ever they need someone to talk to - you'll be there to listen. Don't judge them. Make sure they know you'll not think badly of them whether they self-harm or not. Guide them to professional help. While taking to a friend is good - they should really be talking to a trained professional, who will offer constructive, practical advice and coping strategies. Even if they do seek professional help, don't abandon them. They'll still appreciate a friendly face outside a hospital environment.

What are those stickers called that you put on stretched ear lobes to make them look normal again?

I don't think that exists. If you don't want your ears to be stretched anymore, you'd have to get them repaired. Depending on where you live, you can either go to a piercer with experience with suturing ears back or go to a cosmetic surgeon. The stickers you're talking about are for 18ga ear piercings that are saggy from wearing heavy jewelry :)

Why shouldn't we procrastinate?

Procrastination gives people illusionary benefits. Let's say you were supposed to finish a report and submit on Friday morning. However, you procrastinated on it from Mon-Wed and only pulled an all-nighter on Thursday to finish it. In the end, you managed to finish the report in time.

So what has happened?

  1. Leaving it to the last minute creates a high sense of urgency which appears to boost your productivity, giving you a higher value on time spent working.
  2. You experience short-term gratification from not having to deal with the report on Mon-Wed.
  3. Procrastinating didn't jeopardize anything in reality.

Yet, if you look at it holistically, procrastination has created downsides which may not be immediately noticeable:

  1. Your time in Mon-Wed was not effectively spent. Ideally, you would want to spend your time in proportion to how important the task is. The more important a task, the more time you want to allocate to it to maximize the output on the task. Spending more time on less important work doesn't give you significantly increased value, compared to spending more time on more important work.
  2. Unnecessary anguish and anxiety experienced (whether subconsciously or consciously) trying to avoid the task. The more you prolong the task, the more unnecessary anxiety you experience, compared to if you dealt with the task head-first. In addition, the continuous avoidance leads you to form a distorted mental image of how intimidating the task is vs. what it actually is. In the end you are left with an exaggerated but baseless fear of what you're supposed to do.
  3. More often than not, the final output is short of what you are really capable of, as leaving it to the last minute left you with insufficient time to properly work on it.

The 3 downsides are actually corresponding counterpoints for the 3 illusionary benefits. If you compare the list and take a holistic view, the downsides far outweigh the supposed benefits of procrastination. Not only are you being less productive, you experience unnecessary anxiety, and you deliver an output that falls short of what you can really do. Procrastination leaves you in a worse position, compared to if you didn't procrastinate.

When a person first wakes up, they may be slightly taller than when they go to bed after having been on their feet all day. This is due to the cartilage in the spine compressing slightly from standing. It is only a temporary effect.

Is it normal to be hungry after tasting blood?

I'd say this depends on if you are hungry because of the blood or just hungry. Tasting blood wont remove/stop your body's function of needing/wanting food. Plenty of people enjoy the taste of blood. Humans in general eat the blood of other animals so the taste of blood may have an association with meat as well.

How can you just disappear without letting your loved ones down?

  • One of the cruelest things a person can do to their loved ones is to simply disappear. With the crime rate so high in the Western countries (other countries as well) loved ones tend to think the worst and fear their loved one who has disappeared are dead. Your loved ones go through hell and the worry about your disappearance can cause health issues in older loved ones in the family. No problem in life is unsolvable. If you are that unhappy seek counseling; talk to a clergyman; talk to a best friend or sit as many of your loved ones down and express how you feel. All humans can become frustrated and sometimes feel like they would like to pack their bags and disappear, but there is a warning attached ... be careful what you wish for! Another warning ... your problems just follow you no matter where you go. If you are always in trouble for some reason or another and feel you have failed your family or you feel suffocated by being around your family you can move and rent your own place (if a minor you can perhaps stay with a foster family or a relative you care for) and see your loved ones on occasion or not at all, but at least they know you are happy and enjoying life. Whether you think your loved ones love you or not they do! Be mature and don't run away from your problems.

What is counselors soap box?

A "soapbox" is a figurative term for a "platform" for spreading ideas. When you are in a therapist's office, they have your attention, and while you are there, they have the opportunity to "preach" to you or push their ideas. You cannot really object since you agree to be there. If you don't agree to be there (court order, for instance), then it is even more of a "soapbox," since you can't really get out from under it. If a court rules that you need to be in a 12-step program, then you hear an anti-alcohol or anti-drug message whether you want to hear it or not.

Why would a on the rebound friend be offended by giving him self help dating books including Dr Laura's and Dr Clarks?

In the case of Dr. Laura, I can see that it would be offensive if one does not share her very specific ideas regarding your life or view of common sense. This is because right and wrong can be more a point of opinion than a strict rule. For example, if you get advice that a woman should treat a man a specific way regardless of what he does in return (unconditional)--the guy may see this as a no cost expectation while the woman would see it as unreasonable.

How could I solve the problem What are my choices Who can I trust and talk to for help and guidance?

You don't say what the problem is but, by inference, it seems to be a very sensitive issue for you. Depending on what the problem is, there are several confidential avenues open to you...

  • If its a spiritual problem, you could talk to a Roman Catholic priest. They are bound by a vow of privacy during and after the Sacrament of Reconciliation that transcends all legal issues as well as time. (Other clergy in other religions might also be bound by vows of secrecy - you need to ask.)
  • If its a legal problem, you could talk to a lawyer. They are bound by attorney-client privilege.
  • If its a psychological or emotional problem, you could talk to a psychologist or psychiatrist. They are bound by doctor-patient privilege. However, you should understand that they are obligated to take action if there is sufficient evidence that you are going to hurt yourself or someone else, but I would not dwell on that aspect, because confidentiality is still protected by HIPAA.
  • If its a medical problem, you could talk to a doctor. They are also bound by doctor-patient privilege.
  • If its a spiritual problem, you could talk to God. He does exist; he does love you; and he will respond, if you are open and honest with both yourself and him. Sometimes you have to let go of preconceived notions about God. Sometimes this process is hard, because many people may pray to God and do not seem to get an answer because they already have made a decision to go one way or the other, and God will respect that - its called free will. You would need to pray and meditate and be absolutely honest with yourself, and ask God to help you discern his will for you. You need to take down any wall you might have between you and yourself and God, and get into a place, internally, where lying is impossible. Know that sometimes answers come from unexpected places - be open to all possibilities - including those that might not make sense.
  • You can also talk to your parents. I know, that's hard, but, you know, they ultimately love you and want the best for you.

Good luck, and I wish you Peace and Love.

How do you write a feedback?

There are many ways of writing a feedback. The most popular method is the "feedback sandwich" method.

The way it works is this - your feedback process is broken down into 3 segments. You start off by giving praise - talking about what you like about the item in question. Then, you provide the criticism - things you didn't like. Lastly, you round off the feedback with (a) a reiteration of the positive comments you gave at the beginning and (b) the positive results that can be expected if the criticism is acted upon.
