Not exactly a prequel but there is alot of contrast between the movies. Prometheus is centered around the idea of "Space Jockey's" or "Engineers". These same beings and their ship can be seen in both Alien and Aliens which would suggest Prometheus took place before the Alien movies.

Why don't people believe in aliens?
Various reasons. Some may be religious, some may be due to a limited understanding of life. The only justified reason is that there is no evidence. I personally believe in extraterrestrial intelligence, but I comlpetely understand if others don't based on lack of evidence.

How did Aliens build the pyramids?
Since no one else has been willing to touch this question, I may as well.
To begin with, we have to start with a couple rather HUGE suppositions:
- Aliens exist (we have no evidence)
- Aliens have come to earth (only anecdotal evidence)
- Aliens enjoy atypical architecture (sure, why not)
- Aliens did in fact build the pyramids
Once we accept those suppositions, its a trivial matter of making a few more: The aliens that came to earth had either anti gravity beams (or tractor beams) or were telekinetic and threw them together in an afternoon at which point, people came in and decorated.
PERSONALLY,
I think the more interesting question is how did PEOPLE build the pyramids. There's been a pervasive argument that people could not have constructed something so mathematically precise, moved such large stones cut from a quarry miles away and then pushed them into position. And, at face value, I couldn't do it either, so the logic makes a bit of sense.
However, we now know from written records that the Nile river was actually diverted to create streams which allowed the rocks to be boated up the quarry rather easily from the quarry in which they were cut for at least the great pyramid at Cheops's. Its not unreasonable to assume they did it for the others as well.
We also know that given a long enough lever, a single person could feasibly move a 2-3 ton stone into position. Given a little bit of time, a few extra people (like the couple thousand who are recorded as having worked on the pyramids) and shorter levers, its quite feasible that the stones could have been pushed into position fairly effectively with VERY primitive equipment.
We also now know that Egyptians actually had forms of calculus, extremely complex mathematics, and were able to do very difficult calculations without a mechanical device. Granted, we only have bits and pieces of what remains of cuneiform tablets and a few papyrus reeds, but the essentials are there.
Finally, based off empirical studies and computer models, we have now proven that the rather large army that the egyptians had on hand could have indeed built the pyramids in a couple decades, possibly faster.
Now don't get me wrong. I understand the appeal of aliens. I understand why we like to imagine that they had some sort of role in our past, and its true, there are records which may indicate that aliens HAVE visited earth.
But I think its insulting to us a species, and to the builders themselves, to write it off as impossible. Time and again the human race has proven its capacity to do remarkable things. This one just took a bit more planning. :P

Military intrigue.
Prior to the end of the cold war, the military was the military; no political correctness, no civilian law enforcement, no equal opportunity employing, and no volunteer military (until after the Vietnam War) (Army, Navy, Air Force/Coast Guard came under the Treasury Dept. then the Transportation Dept. now currently Home Land Security). The US Military came under the WAR DEPARTMENT prior to 1947; after that the name changed to the DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE which is the current title. Civilians, especially immediately following WWII (1945), were "intrigued" with the military, as it existed and is explained above. Roswell occurred in 1947, nearly 2 yrs after WWII ended. While the military was the "real military" (as explained above), it conducted many many experiments...airplanes were new, jets were new, missiles were new, nuclear energy was new...etc. etc. So the military experimented.
Civilians, with their "intrigue" and "love of mystery", which includes UFO enthusiasts, got wind of some of those experiments (balloons, mannequins, radio controlled aircraft, etc. etc.) and the rumors began to fly. Very true; the US military has conducted many many strange experiments (even before WWII) and even military men weren't immune to some of those rumors (even expanding upon them, off duty or out of the service). But people (especially civilians who have never been in the military and hold the service in high "intrigue") will believe what they want to believe, and nothing, absolutely nothing is going to change their minds! They're minds are mind up, and "they don't want to be confused with the facts."
But a good thing has come from those intrigued civilians; movies, books, comic books, television shows, clubs, etc. Its excellent entertainment and gives people something to do, and for some people it gives them a purpose in life...like hunting down "those UFOs."

Kind of. The aliens and the people of South Africa represent the apartheid that has caused the nation of South Africa a lot of problems. As you know, in District 9, the people and the prawns do not get along and live in harmony, just like black and white people decades ago when apartheid and segregation were still intact. However, the aliens you see in District 9 are entirely fictional, and no alien ship ever hovered above Johannesburg.

The science of aliens is very bizarre, we do not comprehend their cell-structure. It could appear to be gooey on the outside and have a crystalline structure like that of a diamond. Or vice versa, there have been many breakthroughs in the field regarding aliens and microwaves, and one experiment you can try at home is putting a peep in the microwave, some aliens may revert back to being corn syrup, but some aliens may not react as well to the waves, it all depends on the density, and molecular structure of said alien. With our current understanding of this science we cannot give a definitive answer, but science fiction leads us to believe that breakthroughs in the next 10 or 20 years may lead to a definitive answer. In conclusion, we cannot say for sure, all we can say for sure is that we can put them in toasters, because the science to conduction v. aliens is a lot simpler than microwave v. aliens.

A few leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly known as 'Mormons') have mentioned both historically and more modern that there are other earths with other people on them. This may be where the 'alien' rumor comes from. However, these are not aliens, they are human beings just like you or I, on earths similar to the one we live on. Some might also consider the fact that members of the church believe in heavenly messengers and angels as a belief in aliens. So, yes members of the church believe there is life on other planets, but they do not believe in little green men in silver jumpsuits or consider them 'aliens'.
