How do you make teens interested in literature?

Speaking as former recent teen ( I am 21 now) you have to make it relate in someway to their lives. Like for instance, if you have ever seen the movie Romeo and Juliet that has Leonardo Decaprio in it then you could tell that the way the story is told in it is much more appealing to students. It adds meaning to "thou hast not" kind of language that seems so foreign and boring to most teens. That is the key to why kids find literature so dry alot of the time...the language is difficult and students get frustrated trying to even understand what they are reading, much less the meaning behind it. I hope that helps. Kep thing to remember, as with all subjects, is people will learn it better and be more interested in it if you can make it relate to their lives some how...which is the are of being a teacher i suppose.

What can you do if a team member does not practice teamwork?

They get kicked off the team

== For some people, it seems like this is how they operate--by sponging off of teammates so they can get good grades without doing the work. I have a lot of friends who end up in this situation by taking online and evening courses. The thing to do is suck it up and do the work, but make sure that you describe in the evaluation the steps you took to try to get the person to participate: keeping them in the loop, communicating duties (CYA in email), helping them to understand the division of labor, group discussion of what is happening so it looks like you actually tried to solve the problem. Once the project is done, refuse to include them on a team again. Of course, you are stuck with them at work or in public school and you just have to do the best you can in the situation.

I work very hard at school and no matter how hard I work I get a D's and C's on my report card Any suggestions?

It is very discouraging to spend all of your life on school work and still have disappointing (to say the least!) results.

What you have to do is to work smarter, not harder. That means finding a balance between work and play. Spend SOME time with your friends, get some exercise, eat right and get enough regular sleep. If you don't you will build up so much stress that you won't be able to learn. It really is true.

If the task is to memorize a list, then make flash cards and look at them every night before going to sleep. You will remember the information if you do this every night. Take good notes--completely answer the questions at the end of the chapter, read the book (or find a good synopsis). Think about what you are writing down and try to reach some conclusions about the information.

If you don't understand a math or science problem, try to do the homework and take in your specific questions to the teacher or a tutor. Learn the math facts so that you are just having to deal with the problems. Asking for help is probably the hardest thing to do because we all feel dumb when we don't understand. (Really) You should realize that all those smart kids are going through the same thing but they know the ropes of when to get help instead of floundering. If you understand the type of learner you are (verbal, visual, etc.) then, you can play to your strengths. Which you do have. Take heart.

I would also add that you go to your teacher(s) and ask for feedback on what you could do differently. A lot of times, students focus a ton of attention on items that don't weigh heavily in their final grade, and neglect those items that are highly significant. Ask for help prioritizing, and I think your teacher may be able to guide you. Good luck!
