Let us consider a 4 cylinder spark ignition (petrol engine) engine for an example.

The following steps are to be performed

1. The engine is started and is run at the rated speed.

2. The maximum load of the engine is calculated and is connected to the engine . The engine is now brought to its rated speed .

3. The first cylinder is cut off by shorting the spark plug .

4. Now because the cylinder is cut off the engine speed is reduced.

5. Hence the load is to be varied such that the engine comes back to its rated speed.

6. Then the first cylinder is again started and the same is repeated for all the other cylinders.

The engine can be loaded using a dynamo meter (hydraulic or eddy current)

ADSL filter is a passive electrical circuit, (low pass filter) which is used along with an ADSL modem (for internet access). It can be built into an ADSL modem or is provided as a small box along with the modem. On one side it connects to the telephone network side. Other side has two connections one for connecting the phone and other one to connect to the ADSL modem. It essentially filters the high frequencies, which the modem uses, and thus prevents it from interfering with the telephone signals which uses lower frequencies for audio signals.

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is a digital, point-to-point network capable of transmitting speeds of about 2Mbps. A computer connects to an ISDN line via an ISDN adapter and uses the same type of wiring as a Telephone wire. The only difference is ISDN can carry analog (voice) and digital signals, so it can be used to connect to the Internet. It can be connected by the phone company but it is rarely used as it needs special equipment and is more expensive than other way.

You don't - you'll need an Ethernet card for your computer. A regular voice/fax modem is different than a high-speed/network connection, so you need a different 'card' (with a socket that will match your cable). If you can't find a socket that your Ethernet cable fits, then you don't have an Ethernet card installed!
