Theatre companies in 1593-1594 were all forced to closed down by law due to the Black Death. The main reason for this was because the disease was speading very quickly and any public builings, or the people within them, would more than likely be contaminated. In attempt to put a hault to the spead of the disease there was a ban of all theatres in London, England. Many actors left the city to aquire medical- and finacial- safety. Nearing the end of the bubonic plague outbreak, the theatres in London re-opened. Unfortunately, there was another outbreak in 1594 and they were closed yet again.

The word, proscenium, which was derived from ancient Rome, and literally translates to "In front of the scenery", is used to describe the area surrounding the front of a stage.

The story of Sweeney Todd started out as a periodical in the Penny Dreadfuls under the name of "A String of Pearls". Soon after this, various stage versions emerged and over time it became a popular urban legend that has been adapted into many musical stage productions, books, and films. All of the large open-air public theatres had, as far as we can tell, a large balcony above the stage with direct access from the tiring house (the building right behind the stage). The only actual picture of this is a picture of the Swan Theatre, built some four years before the Globe, which shows this balcony being flush with the tiring house wall at the back of the stage. In the reconstructed Shakespeare's Globe Theatre which opened in 1996, the upper stage projects over the stage.

We surmise that all the public theatres had such an upper stage because of the frequency of scenes in various plays of the time which seem to have been written with the upper stage in mind. Such scenes in Shakespeare include not only the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet, but scenes involving conversations between someone on city walls and someone else on the ground (Henry V, King John), or between someone on the upper and lower parts of a castle (Richard II).

So first off, write a play either one or two acts. Tell friends about it and hold auditions at a location you pick. Then take notes during auditions and cast the show with another director (it always helps) . Make sure the other director is a close friend that you can get along with. Then, send out an email to your cast members the cast list and send out dates of rehersal. Then have or 2 rehersals each week then perform the show on a date you pick.

The name of the play was "No, No, Nanette," which was a musical version of a play Frazee produced in 1920 called "My Lady Friends." The problem is there is absolutely no proof Frazee used any of the proceeds from the Ruth sale to finance any of his Broadway productions. Frazee sold Ruth in January 1920, but he didn't announce plans to produce "No, No, Nanette" until May 1923; the musical didn't open OFF Broadway until 1924; and it didn't open ON Broadway until 1925. Whomever first wrote that Frazee sold Ruth to finance "No, No, Nanette" didn't do his home work.

There were several theatres in London during Shakespeare's time. Although very few facts are actually known about Shakespeare, it was known that he was a shareholder in the original Globe Theatre at the end of the 16th Century.

The reconstruction of The Globe is itself based on sketchy facts about the appearance and construction of the original, and is considered to be a 'best guess', built about 250 yards away from the original site. It is however, an excellent theatre, and well worth a visit.
