The main difference between a 5 speed Celica GT-S and a 6 speed Celica GT-S, is that the 6 speed has one more gear than the 5 speed does. This means that each gear in the 6 speed is 'shorter.' This can be explained by looking at the gears like a cake: you can cut the cake in to 5 pieces, or 6 slightly smaller pieces. However you cut it, though, it is the same amount of cake overall.

New Headlights

1.) From the left side of the steering wheel, turn the headlight switch up two notches so that the lights pop-up. Under the steering wheel and at the bottom of the dash activate the hood release.

2.) Open the hood to expose the headlights completely. There are three screws per headlight plastic cover. Removing them will release the plastic casing leaving the steel trimmed bracket holding the light in place.

3.) The bracket is held by one screw top center, removing the screw and lightly pulling the bracket downward will release the headlight. The head light will come out very easily exposing the headlight plug. Unplug the old and insert the new. Make sure that the light is not upside down. Two dimples on the new headlight are on the bottom.

4.)Push the New Headlight back into position, bend Bracket back up and secure with the screw. Place the plastic cover around the headlight and secure with three screws.

5.) Repeat steps 1 - 4 for opposite head light.

It could be not getting enough air, if the filter is pushed too far down on the pipe, it would cause it to do that.

Exact same thing happened to me. Cold heater air and constant overheating, dispite having a full coolant tank, means that the thermostat has gone. You need to get it replaced. Thermostats are cheap - about £24. It's the labour that can cost an additional £80-£90 as it involves removing the alternator to get to the thermostat. If you feel comforatble under the bonnet, you can do it yourself and save yourself a few quid.

Yes. ANSWER: If you're going to do it to save weight, they only weigh a few pounds. Depends on the generation. Removing the back seats in a cloth interior 5th gen celica saves you about 40lbs. Obviously more for a GTS/AllTrac leather interior. I don't know the weights of the other generations.

Hi! First of all, Is the engine turning over. I have had problem with imobiliser on these cars. You need to see if you are, 1= Getting a spark 2= Getting fuel before you do anything else. Crankshaft sensors are another thing that can fail. You can pick up fault code readers quite cheap nowdays, and some times that is the only way to find some faults. The starter motors have a set of points in them that stop the engine turning over but usually when hot. If you say if it is turning over or not, I should be able to help you more...Den Actually, on all 4th generation Ceicas, there happens to be a notorious starter problem. It stemms from the problem of electrical resistance in the wires leading from the battery to the starter itself. It is suggested that a 12 Volt relay be set up directly between the battery and the Starter. a 3s-gte which is a 2.1 turbo is the easiest engine swap. this engine had 200 horsepower in the 5th generation. It was increased to 245 horsepower for the 6th generation celica. I have heard of a supra twin turbo being crammed under the hood a 5th generation celica, which can have upwards of 300 hp, but then you might as well just buy a supra as the cost of the swap would exceed the value of the car.

edit: the 3sgte is a 2.0 turbo charged engine and it would be better to swap a 5sfe turbo

Hydraulic lifters are nonadjustable. Chances are the noise is coming from play in rocker arm, or ignition out of time. If you are sure it is the lifter, then it must be replaced.

If the car is not in park, it wont release the key. If it is in park, there is a little switch underneath the prndl indicator that is bad, causing the car to not release your key.

The fuel pump is located in the gas tank...I believe you can get to the pump by removing the back seat; take off the cover plate, located in the center, which is screwed down. Can't miss it. Careful....gas is very flammable....take off negative connection of battery post before opening the taking off the fuel pump to insure no accidental sparks are created....

First you need a deep socket ranch and open the trunk and remove the plastic plugs on the vinyl wall.

That will expose the long shaft , got to get to the nut and remove it.

There are 3 2 on the righ side 1 on the left..

Once you take the whole housing out you will be exposed to the light clips, teke(twist) the appropriate clip and remove bulb, and replace.

But the whole fixture has to come out..

Its relative easy , just make sure you tighten down the nuts back so the fixture can be water tight.

Its a ground that goes to the firewall and to the left hand bolt on the alternator bracket.Mine goes from my power steering unit bolt to the bolt on the alt as explained, simple ground. The laternator itself has one plug and one power , no single ground wires.

If your '97 is anything like a '96,remove the radio and the compartment under it.Remove that compartment and install the CD.Then install the whole unit.
