Two. One before, and one after, the catalytic converter. The one before the catalytic converter (closer to the front of the car) is more critical and usually first to be replaced, although both have a recommended replacement interval of 100,000 miles.

You need a battery that will; a) physically fit the spot where the battery is mounted, b) has specs that match or are compatible with the manufacturers requirements for the vehicle, c) will allow for operation in your climate/conditions and use of any additional accessories without affecting starting and charging of your electrical system.

any reputable shop selling batteries will be able to sell you the required battery. I do not recommend buying used and make sure the physical dimensions of the battery match the original, including location/type of terminals; do not use terminal adapters unless absolutely necessary.

Its about a foot toward the front of the car from the oil drain bolt, but up a little, you have to reach up to untwist it.

Open hood , remove neg battery cable , remove intake hose , air filter box , remove throttle body and wires , water hoses that are connected to it , remove intake manifold , there are 2 sensors under the intake , one of them is the oil press switch , other one is the knock sensor , knock sensor is the one closest to the cylinder head

You have to take out the engine to get to it.

The release lever is on drivers side floor by the seat there is also lever for the trunk right in front of it

Look behind the pull out coin draw about where your left knee is. Its the blue 15 amp fuse. Grab the fuse puller from the fuse box under hood and spare 15 amp fuse is there too.

If you mean the OBD II port, its close to where the driver's left knee would be when driving. You might need a flashlight to see it.

If you do all scheduled maintenance, including regular oil changes, spark plug changes, the occasional PCV valve replacement, air filter changes, the occasional O2 sensor and MAF replacements, the engine is going to last an extremely long time. I don't think anyone has yet tested the limits of this engine? I know 3 different people that have over 400,000 miles on their Toyota Echo's and they are still going strong. Only one of those replaced his transmission, and all 3 are on the original engine with no rebuilds. I also know someone who did virtually no maintenance (ran short on oil, followed up by overfilling) and destroyed their engine recently at just 85,000 miles (this was on a Toyota Rav4 not an echo, but I don't think that really matters, the point is the engine is not bullet proof, it will last a long time if you take care of it).

The speakers in a 2001 Toyota Echo measure 4 inches in the dash, 6 1/2 inches in the front door, and 6 inches by 9 inches in the rear deck. The car may not have dash speakers, as they weren't a mandatory option.

i would recommend 5w-30

5W-30 is to thin in the echo engine, you'll find that it will consume the oil over time between oil changes.

A 10W-40 would be a better choice. Check the user manual also for was is recommended for your car and conditions it will be driven in..

In the engine bay , on the right side there is a fuse box , take the cover off , and turn cover upside down to see which on is the EFI fuse , if im not mistaken its the second to last , a green 30

For my 2002 Echo it is 3.7 Liters with a filter change.

Ha, I am answering my own question! I actually found some helpful diagrams on the Toyota website, but as they were generic, I had to do a little bit of detective work... Anyway here is what I found out: 1. Air Filter- It is a little black box that is under a bunch of hoses to the right of the engine. You have to loosen up a screw first, then undue some clamps and then physically remove the hoses. It sounds like a lot but it really isn't that big of a deal. Just make sure to remember where everything goes when you are done! It took about 2 minutes from start to finish...what a money saver! They were trying to charging me $25 to change, but I did it myself for $7! 2. Cabin Filter- This one was a bit harder to find...but once i found it, it was a piece of cake. I was looking under my hood for ages...when it dawned on me, that maybe it wasn't under the hood! To find it, go into your glove compartment inside the car (the one on the bottom) and remove the whole drawer, and there you go, it's right there! Slide out the tray, pinch the filter to install, replace in original position...and voila! Less than one minute and you are done! I was charged $14 at Autozone for this filter...but they were trying to charge me over $40 at the place where I had my oil changed. Hopefully this helps!

The rear cup holder has a 10mm bolt that needs to be removed, then the whole center cover can come out. There are 6 clips on the oval-shaped dome that the shifter sits in (two in front, two in back, one on the left, one on the right) that need to pried open. Pull that whole piece up and there is a little light on the left side. Just pull it straight out, put in a new one, and reassemble everything.

1)check your shift linkage and see if there is any play in the joints (woren out ruber bushings ect)2)check if the linkage bar for damage (bends cracks ect)3)remove rubber covering from shifter and examine the 5 gear position for any obstructions 4)transaxle damage possible striped 5 gear causeing the slipping out of gear

An echo happens when sound waves bounce off an object. That's why if you scream into a hollow cave, there is an echo. Because the sound waves bounce off the walls and back at you

My 2000 Echo had a similar problem. It turned out to be a bad Mass Air Flow Sensor chip, making the car run to rich, and in turn making the engine light come on.

the filter is inside the fuel tank. it is a lifetime filter and should only be replaced by a trained technician if you suspect you got dirty gas from the station. You must remove the negative terminal from the battery, and remove the rear seat to access the filter. under the rear seat is a black metal plate. if it has screws, remove them if on screws, pry it up with a screwdriver. careful with the wires. Once you remove the 8mm bolts for the fuel pump, remove it carefully not to bend or break the sender. after that, you will see the filter and where is seperates from the pump. Once again, I strongly recommend a trained technician do the job, and only if you think you got dirty gas. good luck.
