What type of drugs tests are administered at Marine Boot Camp I am leaving for Boot Camp in a week....Ive heard you do both piss and blood tests. I just want to know from any Marines...thanks?

I never took any blood drug tests that I know of, just urine tests (10-panel that includes checking for steroids and masking agents). Don't be foolish and use drugs anytime but especially while the government now has the ability to prosecute you and make the rest of you life a living hell.

How many college credits do you earn from marine boot camp?

Unfortunately, not much. My college transferred only 3 credits for Marine Corps boot camp.

What if i don't take the 1199A to Navy boot camp?

At worst you won't get paid on time, but you'll eventually get paid. SF 1199A (the military version of the Direct Deposit form), like all DD forms, is required for military members and Civil Service employees as well, for almost 15 years now. It costs the government a lot of money to print Treasury Checks (though I miss getting them), so the DD system cuts costs substantially.

There are 4 things you never want to screw up while in the Navy;

1. Pay

2. Medical / Dental Records

3. Personnel Records

4. Pay

Did I mention Pay?

You can always get one online and take it with you or mail it in to the address on the form, ask your Recruiter for a copy, or you can tell your CC when you arrive that you screwed up and forgot your form (which won't endear you, but since everyone's a screwup at first, it's not a big deal). Don't let it slide either - the government won't pay you if it doesn't know where to deposit your money. It's not like the old days when your checks arrived and they passed them out at mail call, or they mailed them to your wife and she spent it all before you got back from sea. Yeomen don't like to deal with sailors who give them more work; not attending to your own admin requirements does just that, so don't make it a habit. Always keep your unit Yeoman on your good side, as well as the Doc. You'd be surprised how easily your shot record and personnel file can be "lost" if you aggravate them enough.

Usually, someone during your BT processing after you arrive will figure out there isn't a form on file for you and get you to fill one out. However, knowing how busy PN's are these days, don't assume they'll catch it - be proactive and ensure your pay is taken care of.

Why a recruit would be discharged from Boot Camp?

Health reasons , a family emergency or an unsuitability for military life .

Do soldiers to to war after Boot camp?

Soldiers, after boot camp, can go to war, but often don't. They will most likely undergo some specialized training in boot camp, but might go to another camp, to learn more about their specialization and be with people who will be with you IF you even have to fight. If you're ancy about going to war, try the army reserve. They are a part of the army. You will meet regularly and the chance of going to war is decreased.

Can army recruits get gifts during basic training?

Generally, no. If they receive gifts in the mail, the Drill Sergeants have the discretion whether to allow the soldier to have them then, or to hold onto them until the end of BCT, then give them to the soldier.

How can you find out what basic training unit at Fort Knox someone was assigned to if there is no record of it in his DD214?

The person's duty assignments do not appear on DD 214 except for foreign service, and then just length of foreign service. His records of every duty station he was assigned to, including training, will be found on his DA Form 20, available under certain circumstances from the National Personnel Records Center in St. louis, MO.

Who is the publishers of army basic training yearbooks?

each training center has its own photographer it would seem. For example, Ft. Benning, Ga uses Leonard's Photo Was looking for an older book and they don't keep anything prior to 5 years

Are the us air force jump boots steel toe?

No. I believe you're referring to the Corcoran boots, which are used in formal wear by parachute units of the Army. They don't actually jump in those - in parachute operations, the same jungle boots, black leather boots, desert boots, etc. common to the leg units are worn.

How does a soldier in basic training become a honor guard for the US Army?

There are many honor guards in the US Army. The basic tenent of all honor guards is that the soldier sets himself or herself above their peers. Traditionally, honor guards were selected from the best soldiers in a unit. The ultimate honor guard of the United States Army is The Old Guard.

The Old Guard Mission Statement:

"The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) conducts memorial affairs to honor our fallen comrades, and ceremonies and special events to represent the Army, communicating its story to our Nation's citizens and the world. On order, conducts defense support of civil authorities in the National Capitol Region."

Requirements for assignment to The Old Guard:

  • Males must be 5' 10" or taller. Females must be 5' 8" or taller.
  • GT Score of 110 or higher.
  • APFT score of 250 or higher.
  • Present an outstanding military apearance in uniform.
  • No previous USMJ action.

(See related links for more details about The Old Guard and requirements to join.)

Can you join the army if your spouse is undocumented?

You can. When your spouse applies for her dependent ID (which is what would give her access to the post you're stationed at), some very obvious issues are going to result from that. You would need to speak to an immigration attorney to see about getting your spouse's status legalised before you enlist.

Should military training be made compulsory?

If you are referring to military training alone, no. If you trained all citizens to be soldiers and most of those citizens went on to civilian jobs, those civilians would most likely take away from the training that a person that will actually become a soldier needs. If you are referring to military service being made compulsory, I still say no under the current circumstances. By soldiers volunteering, you are getting recruits that want to be soldiers, meaning that they will take training more seriously and also be more willing to put their life on the line for the mission. If you require military service, you will be recruiting soldiers that do not want to die or fight, and that could be a liability. Sure, in a war like World War 2 where we were threatened by a nation that could have actually taken us over, there is strength in numbers. But in the battles we fight today, where their is no threat of invasion, where we only fight insurgents that try to kill as many soldiers as possible, with no real hope of taking over america, then there is only strength in well trained soldiers. Larger numbers would only mean a higher amount of people that could be hit IED's or ambushes, and result in a high casualty count. Our miltary is now smaller but better trained, but most of the people actually want to serve, which makes their service that much more great.

How can you persuade your boyfriend not to join the army?

This is a decision he has to make on his own. Many young people are sucked into "getting a good education" through the armed forces when they can't afford it elsewhere. While it is true to a point, one can be pushed into active duty with the wars that are breaking out these days.

Many young people fantasize about war, and some even find it romantic or adventuresome, but all they have to do is go on websites to see how dirty, horrific and miserable war really is.

I don't blame you one bit for being worried, but, you aren't married and he has a right to make his own decisions. Just be sure he gets the RIGHT info before joining up and, if possible get him to talk to someone that has joined up.

War is bad enough when one has to fight for all the right things, but the war going on today is questionable and it's certainly been proved that civilians are not getting the whole truth from their governments. Do we ever!

Good luckMarcy

Also you can find out what MOS or job he's going to have in the army. If it's something not dangerous then i wouldn't worry about it. Now i am in Infantry, which is probably the most dangerous. Once you find that 411 out, let us know, and I'm sure we can tell you how we feel about it.

What is Fort Benning basic training like?

Depends on what you're going for. If you're going for Infantry, you'll attend One Station Unit Training (OSUT), which is your Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training rolled into one package. There are also some units there which conduct Basic Combat Training only for non-infantry personnel.

The latter will be just like any other BCT... you'll inprocess at the Adjutant General battalion, get your uniforms issued, get all your paperwork filled out, get many shots and vaccinations, get your ID card issued, have photos taken, get your pay set up (if you don't already have a bank account, one will be set up for you), and you'll take a "light" version of the PT test, which, if you can't pass it, you'll be sent for remedial training before you ship downrange to your BCT/OSUT unit. All in all, you could spend anywhere from two weeks to a month just waiting before you actually start Basic.

From there, you'll settle into a routine.. PT in the mornings, you'll start prepping for marksmanship training, you'll learn basic IMT and such... infantry OSUT would be somewhat more intense than other BCT programmes, but the BCT phase covers the same things every other BCT programme at every other training post does.

Fort Benning tends to be particularly hot and humid, so you can expect to sweat it out quite a bit.

What basic maintenance should you do on a 1982 Suzuki GS650?

Lube all cables, change all case fluids, adjust/ bleed brakes (change fluid if applicable), inspect overall condition and tires, inspect/adjust chain tension, check lights, adjust carb(s), change all filters (istall in-line fuel filter if possible), change plug(s), refill with mid-grade fuel. That should get you through maintenance, and should be done periodically, with light checks and services throughout the riding season. Same as above but also oil chain.

How far is it from Ft Benning to Ft Leonard Wood?

It is 673.3 miles, 11 hours 20 minutes approximate travel time, by road.
