Are SATA drives USB drives?

SATA (Serial ATA) drives are normal drives that use the SATA interface when connecting to a PC. A SATA cable is used to bridge the gap between the drive and the computers motherboard and a separate cable is used to provide power to the drive.

USB, in a similar way to SATA, refers to an interface. It is possible to use a USB cable to connect a SATA drive to a USB port but only if you use an appropriate SATA-USB adapter.

Most, if not all, external hard-drive kits, which may be sold as 'USB hard-drives', will contain a SATA drive inside a drive caddy with a USB cable connecting it to the PC. The caddy will already have the SATA-USB adapter built into it, negating the need to go and buy one yourself.

Please don't try and wedge a USB cable straight into the back of a SATA drive as it will no doubt cause damage.

How do you reformat a netbook using usb flash drive?

It is possible to reformat a netbook with a flash drive if you use the program unetbootin. Unetbootin requires you to have a working operating system and an .iso file (a disk image of the new operating system you will be replacing the old one with. If ran from your desktop computer, unetbootin will give you the option to download a disk image, in this case, linux disk images. Linux is an open source operating system available for free. Or if you prefer to have Windows on your netbook, you will need to find the original Windows disk that came with your netbook, if any, or buy a Windows disk, and extract the .iso from the disk using .iso extraction software on a desktop computer with a disk drive. If you don't have a desktop computer or don't know anyone with one who would let you borrow it to extract the Windows .iso, visit your local library and request to use their computer for that. Extracting an .iso file is time consuming. Alternate: acquire a Windows disk image from the Internet by download. It is up to you how you accomplish that. You must then complete the form on unetbootin to prepare the disk image on your thumb drive. This is as easy as locating the disk image you wish to write to the thumb drive on your computer, then clicking next. When the procedure is complete, restart your computer with the thumb drive plugged in a USB port in your computer. When the computer boots, you should see a prompt on the screen to "press the * key to enter BIOS setup" or "press the * key to change boot options". Popular keys that manufacturers use are or . Look through your BIOS options, which are unique, and move the thumb drive up in "boot order" so your netbook boots from the thumb drive. After the BIOS option is set, reboot your computer once more, and if you are successful, your prepared thumb drive will boot whatever disk image you put on your thumb drive. Follow the disk's instructions to reformat your netbook.

To put it simply, step by step:

  1. Acquire a flash drive (recommended 2gb+ for Windows XP, Linux, 4gb+ Windows Vista, windows 7).
  2. Use a working PC to download a USB boot preparation software such as unetbootin to prepare an operating system disk image to be written to the thumb drive.
  3. Write the disk image to the thumb drive using the unetbootin software. It will prepare the USB drive for boot, which may take at least 10-30 minutes.
    1. System BIOS is unique to the computer, the process will vary, but the phrase you want to locate is "boot order"
  4. Change your system BIOS options to boot from the thumb drive first.
  5. Restart your computer and follow the instructions from your disk image

If all goes well, you have reformatted and reinstalled an operating system on your netbook without the use of a CD drive (assuming you didn't need to extract the disk image with disk image extraction software). Brute force approach is to buy a USB disk drive and install a disk that way, but the way I described will get it done for free, assuming you have a recovery disk. Good luck!

It is not compatible with USB 1.1 but it is compatible with USB 2.0 and mostly it matters on what motherboard you have. With USB 2.0 is a USB 3.0 port, the speeds will be the same but if it is a USB 3.0 in a USB 3.0 port, the speeds will be increased to about 4.8 - 5 Gbps compared to 480 Mbps.

Why does the over drive off light flashes in your 95 Lincoln town car?

Had it happen on mine, right before the shifting to 2nd gear went out. I think the trans is setup to flash the OD light as an indication of some troubles.

ISTR the transmission shop owner saying one could tell by when the flashing occurred, or maybe the sequence of flashing, as to what the error was.

In my case I had about 110,000 miles on the trans...shop said his pickup (with same trans) also went out the same way at around 115,000 miles.

I ended up with a very expensive rebuild, but the shop made some major changes (like by putting in a sprag unit for 2nd gear control, revalving shift points, etc.) and the car now runs with seemingly sharper shifts and more power transmitted.

Good luck! (how many miles on your trans? if between 100K and 120K, you might have same problem...it's pretty common.)

How do you save a rose for memories?

The time honored method is pressing. Carefully place the rose between two pieces of waxed paper inside a book and close it. After three to five days, stand the book between others in a bookshelf to apply more pressure to the bloom. about 30 days is average to get a nice pressed rose, suitable for framing. Another method is silica drying. Purchase enough silica to cover the rose and it's stem. Pour about an inch of silica into a container to start, then place the rose on top of the silica. Gently cover the rose, being careful not to pour too quickly in order to preserve the shape of the blossom. Let dry 5-7 days, or according to manufacturer's directions.

Why would a 5-year-old boy who is normally very well behaved suddenly start acting up at school home public etc?

Usually children of this age that start acting up have a good reason and at this age they just "act out" and don't know why. I just saw a program tonight on "bullying" and was shocked that even 4 - 5 year olds can experience these feelings from their peers. Name calling, pushing, shoving, excluding them from playing within their groups, sharing toys. If your son is in pre-school it's best to talk to the teacher and find out what is going on. Don't accuse, ask for her advice. Perhaps she will suggest that you stand outside, look in through the classroom window to see how your child is interacting with his peers or even the teacher. If you are home-schooling your child, then you have to be sure you balance his play time with his peers because he won't be in a classroom to do that. Parents divorcing can affect children of this age as well or the loss of a parent. Another problem is ADD (attention deficit disorder) or hypersensitivity. I would see your family doctor for an evaluation just to rule this out. Also have your son's ears and eyes checked out. My nephew was in Grade 1 and doing poorly, and getting into scraps with a few of the kids who were calling him stupid. His parents thought he was the one at fault, but it turned out from the keen eyes of my mother (his grandmother) that he couldn't hear! He needed to have tubes put into his ears for a few months, and the problem was solved. Also families who constantly argue (not blaming you here) can also disrupt children of any age. 4 - 5 year old only know to act out anger in these situations I have suggested. Good luck God Bless Marcy
