How do you reduce the time it takes to move a file from a hard disk to a pen drive?

If the pen drive is a standard USB drive then think about upgrading to a USB 2.0 drive, your computer must have a USB 2.0 port as well. USB 2.0 will transfer data much quicker than standard USB. Another option is to use a file compressing software to make the file smaller that you are transferring to the Pen drive. Smaller file, less to move. www.winzip.com

It depends what you are copying them to. If you are copying them to another hard drive, it will have a different drive letter. it is the same with USB drives.

How do you make an icon for the drive?

To make an icon for the drive such as USB sticks or the Hard Drive or some other drive, you must follow these steps in order to make an icon. Otherwise it won't work.

1. Open your drive you want to put the icon. Don't make a folder to put in otherwise it won't work. Just make it in the main dir.
2. Go to Tools > Folder Options > View (tab) and check "Show hidden files and folders", "Hide known Extension Files" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files". You should see a notice that warns you. Click Yes (make sure when you are done, revert it. You don't want to ruin the installation of Windows). Then click Ok.
3. Make a new text file and name it "ico.ico" or whatever you want. Just make you include
".ico" part at the end of whatever you called it. There should be a notice. Just press yes.
4. Right click it then press Edit. But just name it "ico.ico". It would be easier for you.
5. You need to make the size 32*32 pixels. The reason why you have to make at this size is because every icon uses that size. Otherwise you may get a huge icon or a small one or otherwise it won't show at all. Go to Images (on the menu) >
Attributes then on width type in "32" and also in height type in "32". Check that the measurement is on "Pixels" (if you didn't change this don't worry about it) then press ok.
6. You will be needing to use the zoom tool so click the magnify tool then click on the white area to zoom. Now edit it whatever you like. Once done, save it, not changing the name. Close paint.
7. Make a new text file in the same place and name it "autorun.inf". Again you will see the same notice as before so just press yes again.
8. Double click it and copy exact what it says

[Autorun]
ICON=ico.ico

Then just save it.

Thats it. If you named it something else including the ".ico" you can type that instead. Now restart it if it is a hard-drive in the computer or if it is a removeable device just replug it to take effect. Enjoy your new icon!!!

Why flash drives plugged ON in to the computer but it doesn't indicate on the computer?

That's strange phrasing. Plugged on would indicate that your flash drive has an on/ off switch. Which to my knowledge none of them do. When you plug it into a Ian port it recieves power automatically. Usually when there is no initial reaction from your computer when your first plug your flash drive its from one of two things. First, the usb port you are using is fried. To check this either try a different usb port or see if a different peripheral device will work. ie. Camera/ mouse/ what have you. If that's not the case then you need to install drivers for your usb port itself. Look up how to do that on Google since its motherboard specific.

Can you download Urban Terror onto your USB external hard drive and play it on another computer?

While I do not know the program.. most applications need to be "installed" and are not set up to be run independent of a OS. They some times install DLL files and various dependencies. If they don't see them on the new computer it generally will not work.

Some programs can be taken and made portable. But not many of them. So I would go with no.

How do you disable autoplay?

In Windows XP:
  1. Open Group Policy editor from Start Menu > Run > type GPEDIT.msc > [press Enter]
  2. In the Group Policy editor window, browse to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System.
  3. In the right pane, find the item called "Turn off Autoplay". Double-click on the item to open its Properties dialog.
  4. Set the property to Enabled to enable this feature.
  5. In the "Turn off Autoplay on" combo-box, select the drives for which you want to disable auto-run.

This should also work for Win 2K and Server 2K3.

Note: This feature is also available inside User Configuration. To go there, in step 2 above, in the Group Policy editor window, browse to User Configuration > Administrative Templates > System, and continue as before. In this case, the configuration will be user-specific.

In case, there is a conflict between the "Turn off Autoplay" settings in Computer Configuration and User Configuration, the setting in Computer Configuration takes precedence.

This will permanently disable the auto-run feature - that is until you re-enable it again.

Disable Temporarily

To temporarily disable auto-run in drives, just keep the Shift key on the keyboard pressed while inserting the drive and until a few seconds after that.

How do you prevent files from being copied?

If you want to protect files on computer from being copied, you can use Kakasoft Shared Folder Protector. This program allows you to configure other users' permissions to the protected folder, only admin of the folder has full control. For example, you can use it to set a User 1 group and then prohibit copy, modify, and delete permissions to this group, and set this group as default logon account; after this configuration, all users who don't know admin password of this folder can access the folder but can't copy, modify or delete content in it.

If you want to protect files in USB flash drive, you can try another program called USB Copy Protection.
