What size-type of tool is required for an Astra 1.8 drain plug as it is not a standard hex bolt?

Our Zafira 2.0DTI has a flanged plug with a rubber o-ring seal instead of a copper washer,to undo it you need a torx socket, size tx45 I think.Your astra is probably the same. Most of the local motor factors sell torx tools singly or in small sets. If you have the plastic "ecotec" engine cover, you need a smaller torx to get this off for oil filter access.(tx30 I think)If you look around the engine, you will see bolt heads with flutes instead of flats, these require female torx sockets "E" numbers. All designed to discourage home maintenance!!!!! *For easier oil filter access, you may need to remove the intercooler hose. Also, observe the torque setting for the plastic filter top.Although a large socket (36mm)required,torque is only 25Nm.

How do you change heater illumination panel light on T reg Corsa?

Difficult to write this one up.There is only one bulb in the back of the heater assembly, and a light transmitting panel distributes the light. You have to remove the centre mixed air ducts, the heater switch and slide knobs have to be eased off. There is four bolts holding the assembly in,once it is out,the bulbholder is easy to remove and replace bulb.Just take care with the plastic parts.

How do you fix a vauxhall astra van diesel as air lock in diesel pipes as i put new filter on?

First post.

What you need to do is fill the fuel pump up with diesel and then start it. that avoids these stupid vauxhalls to get airlock.

however, now you got to fill the fuel pump with diesel and then tow it and then bump start it. that will allow the vehicle to unair-lock.

hope that helps

What does the red flashing s symbol on the dashboard of your vauxhall astra automatic 1996 mean?

I think it's telling you there is a possible problem with the auto-box.Corsa's are like this,so I'm guessing Astra is the same. The "S" should light up when you press the sport button on the gear selector, this causes the intermediate gears to hold on longer for accelleration or hillclimbing with a caravan on the back. You could try cycling the "S" button to see if it helps, though I think it cancels anyway with ign off. The "S" symbol flashes to alert you to a problem,it may require no more than a computer reset. The gearbox is checked for faults with a diagnostic kit, same as the engine.Hopefully,a short visit to a dealer will solve it for you.

We had the same problem with a 1995 Asta - I plugged the scanner in and cleared all the codes and the light no longer flashes, so your answer seems perfectly correct!
