I had this problem on my 1989 740 Turbo, random stalls, slowly getting more frequent, Replace the fuel pump relay, it is located behind the ashtray, behind the fuses...

it all depends on how the car is cared for, i bought mine with 215,000 miles, and i changed the oil ever 3000 miles and did the rest of the preventative maintinence on time and mine lasted until the tranny went out at 279,000 miles

Most contemporary motor designs are interference. I would not count on it being non-interference. Also, many non-interference designs have larger valve travel due to resonances when operating -- so an engine may be non-interference at idle, but not at high RPMs.

Most of the 91 volvo's airbags were not standard. However you can take it to any volvo dealership and have them add if you do not already have them.

Well the overdrive relay is SITUATED behind the left driver's side foot panel (in a right side driver's seat like we have in Australia), and it's BOLTED ON TO A BRACKET! So you can't just reach in and access it from under the dash. But if you want to know how to TAKE OFF the panel, don't ask me! I actually want to get to the relay to default the overdrive to OFF so that when you drive in the suburbs, as most people do most of the time, the overdrive doesn't cut in and out all the time around 60 Kph. I've had a car where that was done, and it's such a relief! You only hit the overdrive button on the freeway, where you want it. Cheers.

They are at the back behind the ashtray, look in the gap at the top of the fuses.

If you are repairing the horn, you will find the horn housing under the front left fender on the "Driver" side of the car near the blinker. You have to get on the ground to see it.

Chances are very good that there's nothing wrong with the pushbutton itself. Most likely the OD relay has gone bad. They are notoriously unreliable pieces of crap and I cannot understand why they ever installed these. . . but they did. Remove the ashtray in the center console. If you can reach into the relay tray, put your hand in there and feel around toward the firewall for the tallest relay. It'll be to the right and all the way forward on the tray. While driving, try to jiggle this relay and see if the OD goes on or off (whichever you can't get it to do now). To change it, you'll probably need to remove the cigarette lighter and the junk compartment above the ashtray.

IF your switch is actually bad (which is rare), just use a very small straight-tip screwdriver to pop it out of the shifter handle. I believe the wires detach at the switch itself. If not, you'll have to chase them into the tranny tunnel to find the connection. . . or you can do the shadetree half-ass method of cutting and splicing with electrical tape.

where is any hood latch? usually located near the drivers left foot, under the dash board.....

To check the fuel pressure on a 1986 Volvo 740 GL, you'll need a fuel pressure gauge and a few tools. First, locate the fuel rail on the engine, where you'll find a Schrader valve; remove the cap from the valve. Connect the fuel pressure gauge to the Schrader valve, then turn the ignition key to the "on" position without starting the engine to measure the pressure. The correct fuel pressure should be between 36-42 psi; if it's outside this range, it may indicate issues with the fuel pump or regulator.

This can not be answered, there are many "Solinoids" on this car that do many diferent things.

One fault can bee that the low beam is broken on both sides.

Fault two is the relay is not working properly

Typical issue if you've purchased a 740 with an aftermarket radio installed. There're two white wires in the factory radio harness connector. Easiest fix is to find that neglected white wire, and splice it to the other, than to the dimmer wire on the aft market system.

Try changing the bulb, take of the steering wheel then undo the two skrews in lower r and l corner of the instrumet panel. Take care if you have air bag!!!!!!!!!!

Look under the dash on the driver's side, half way down the brake pedal. When you depress the brake pedal, the pedal moves away from this switch, which allows the brake light pedal circuit to complete, and your brake lights come on. This brake light switch is always hot/on, as required by federal law, so that even with no key in the ignition, if you hit your brake pedal, the brake lights will come on.

Try overdrive relay, you can buy them anywhere, replace old one, it is very easy.. I had to replace one on my 88 740. Give it a shot before you let someone work on it.

to change the distributor on a 740 Volvo undo the 3 captive bolts that attach it to the back of the rocker box you will find it easiest to you use a short box spanner and yes it is awkard

take a look under the hood when facing the compartment from the drivers side you will see your throttle body ( aka in older cars a carburetor) under that you will find the starter motor connected to the engine block. You need to buy a manual, Haynes or similar manual. Get to know the whereabouts of the most important parts of your car........
