The 1997 Volvo 850 does not have a MAP sensor but instead has a barometric sensor. The MAP/barometric sensor is located just below and a little toward the passenger cabin on the right (passenger) side from the hood latch. It is bolted with one bolt to the inner fender. Stand on the passenger side and look down you should see it between the windshield washer filler neck and the hood latch. It is quite small and has an electrical plug. It is held in place by one bolt with a 8 mm head. To clarify the hood latches are on each side (not the safety latch in the center.

That is the Fuel Injector relay and not the Fuel Pump relay. it's located in the fuse box (engine compatment)you will have to remove a cover once it's opened it's the relay # 103(it's a green relay).

Hi There is a black plastic cover with four torx screws under the bonnet & close to the windscreen (it also forms the fuse cover) The fuel pump relay (also known as fuel injector relay) is the pink/red one and once you pull it out you can see written on it "fuel pump controller" or words to that effect.

Not so sure if there are relays for each injector as I believe the ECM or Electronic Control Module (located in a black box close to the overflow bottle) controls these injectors with low current switching; there should be no need for relays as the current draw of the injectors is low.

If the fuel pump relay is faulty it will give the same symptoms as lack of fuel. There is a shraeder valve on the right side of the fuel rail (looks like a tyre valve cap) Once cranking and experiencing a no-start condition remove the shraeder valve cap and press it. If no fuel squirts out either the fuel pump or fuel pump relay is faulty.

My own fuel pump relay had multiple dry solder joints. Once these were re-soldered my 850 sprang back to life after months of bad starting. Hope this helps.

Have you recently installed a radio? I had one "professionally installed" and found out after two batteries they wired it wrong. The amp was constantly drawing power off the battery because of the wiring of the new radio. Also, if you have an automatic car starter (remote start), make sure the starting switch path is true, not open.

If the radio is showing "code", you should have a code with the paperwork for the car, if not, call a Volvo dealer and give them the vin number, they can look it up and you just enter it using the preset radio buttons. This has to be done any time you disconnect the battery for extended amount of time or remove radio. When I called the dealer to get my code, I had to fax a copy of the registration and my ID to prove I owned the car and it wasn't stolen. Just a heads up.

In the housing of the hazard dash switch, you can unmount it pulling it forward out of the dash.

you first take the cover over it and un screw it if there screws and if there isn't then take it off carefully with a screw driver. Then unscrew the light bulb and put the new one in

If the nut holding the wiper arm is loose will let the stud just swivel in place and arm wont move. if the nut is tight then the arm under the cowl attached to the wiper levers has come loose.

FOR FUTURE REALEASE TIGHTNESS OF THE NUT , PLACE SPRING WASHER first, BEFORE NUT PLACEMENT... and tighten. CHECK OFTEN FOR TIGHTNESS, OTHERWISE THE THREAD BETWEEN STUD AND WIPER ARM WILL WORE OUT ... and new wiper arm (~ $60.) has to be purchase.

It is very easy to do and don't waste money taking it somewhere to get it installed.

Next to (underneath) the fuse cover. Take off the cover held by 4 screws. Fuel relay is labelled 103 (green 1993 onwards or red 1993).

After two days of on-line searches and two Volvo manuals

I learned that there are no crank sensors referred in the manuals.

I bought it as a "Crankshaft Position Sensor'' but it`s referred as "RPM Sensor"

It`s position is on TOP of the flywheel next to the engine.

Directly UNDER the distributor cap and the camshaft sensor cover.

YOU DON"T. These are sealed units. The repair is to replace the whole half shaft. It much easier actually. JUst thake out the old ha;f shaft get a rebult or new halfshaft and pop it in.

I don't beleve that there is a relay for the injectors. The system has a fuse. If you use a test light check to see if you have 12v on one side of the plug. If so your problem is with the pcm. Injectors are controlled by ground pulses from the computer.

Any 10W-30 oil meeting the API-SM specification is recommended for the 1995 Volvo 850.

If the word "code" appears, you need to punch in the 4-digit code that's probably on a card in the brown plastic container with your owner's manual in your glove box. If it's missing, call any Volvo dealer service department and ask for the radio code. They'll ask you for the VIN number of the car which is at the bottom of your windshield. Then they should be able to look it up. Once you have the code, just punch it into your radio to unlock it. You need to do this every time you remove or kill your battery.-Ricardo Furioso

Take the terminals off for five mins both of them

Under the coin holder in the center console. Just pull up on the coin holder and remove and you will see OBD II port.

i have a 96 850T automatic trans and the first time it was 2500 the second time it was 1500 and the thrid it was 1200 and its holding now but that's how much i paid better off getting another tranny
