How do you you convert a VW bug in to a VW baja?

This is a somewhat difficult question to answer. It depends heavily on if you're actually going to take it offroad of it you plan on making a pavement princess. Since it will take a while to type out all the information, do some searching on The Samba for Baja info. If you need parts, check Dan's Performance Parts.

What if your vw beetle has no dome light that you can see if it does where is it located?

The domelight is located on the driver side just above the hand strap if you have one. If you don't have a hand strap, the location of the dome light is just above the driver side door between the top rear of door and the driver side backseat window.

How do you undo a nut on 1970 vw beetle back hub Clochwise or anti-clockwise. Car has stood for 3 years and nut is fused on?

I doubt it is fused on. The nuts are all standard direction . The wheels are held to the brake hubs/drums by wheel bolts, not nuts on studs like most vehicles. Normal thing to help is to dribble penetrene or the like on to the bolt over a few days, a little at a time and then try to getthe nut to crack loose.

If you are trying to undo the large axle nut then it is very hard to do.

First remove the split pin and discard it. Then using a socket and long breaker bar of at least 6ft (not a typo!) try to back the nut off. They are done up to 137ft/lbs when they are fitted, so they will take nearly twice as much to break free. I always use a thin cutting wheel on a hand held grinder and carefully cut the nut in two places until it breaks apart.

Always replace the nut and the split pin when you refit them to the axle.

Porsche engine in VW Beetle?

Porsche and Volkswagen have always been similar in design. Porsche engines will not fit into a beetle very easily. Just four bolts, three wires, one fuel line and one cable (only old Porsche 356 motor) .

Are vw beetles good cars?

If you can and will work on a car, they're good cars. The newest Volkswagen Beetle in the United States is 29 years old and most are well over 30, so they require a lot of maintenance. Keep up on it, and the car is reliable. If you can't or won't work on a car, don't get one because you'll be stranded a lot.

How do you take out the back seat of a 1966 volkswagen beetle?

The base just pulls out. There is a bolt on each side of the back; remove it and the seat back lifts out.

How do you open the trunk to a 1971 Volkswagen beetle?

To open the trunk on a 1971 VW beetle, there is a little handle in the glove compartment which must be pulled toward the passenger seat to allow you to pop the trunk open. Pull the lever and then push the button on the trunk (hood). It should open right up. If the lever in the glove box is broken, you'll have to use a pair of pliers to pull the cable that unlocks the trunk. Good Luck...

Where is the fusebox on a 2005 rx330 that is located at the instrument panel Maybe I am slow in the mind don't see it's right where the owners manual says?

On my '99, it is behind the little compartment door on the left side, just above the hood release latch. When you open that little door, just pull up and it will slide off the hinge pins (it's all plastic) and the fuse panel is right there behind the door. Hope this is the one you're looking for.

How do you replace a rod in type 1 vw engine?

You need to remove the head on the side where the bad rod is. Just unbolt it and pull it off. It will be in the pushrod tube. It is recommended that you replace the pushrod tube seals when you do this, because when the head is taken off, the old seals may break or not seal as well if it's been a while since they've been changed. Personally, if I were to replace a rod, I would replace all rods, tubes and seals. It's relatively inexpensive and can take care of any developing oil leaks from there. When you reattach the head, make sure you follow the proper torque pattern and tightening specs.

What would cause a tapping noise in a car engine?

that means you need more oil. it could also be a sticky lifter or slightly bent push rod or even the tappets out of adjustment

How can I fix the brake lights on a 1967 VW?

The brake light switch is located directly on the brake master cylnder. Look behind the drivers side wheel well and think in the direction of where the back of the gas pedal would be. (You'll be doing this "under" the car.) There should be two switches on the side closest to you. Each switch has two wires coming out.

If you've got a multimeter, you can look for the 12 volts at the sockets themselves when someone pushes on the brake pedal. Make sure you use your meter correctly and have a good ground to touch the black lead to. (The sides of the light socket itself are the ground.) If you don't have a good ground, you could be touching the contact and there could be 12 volts there and you'd never see it.

It depends on how much of the original wiring is intact and how much wiring you feel comfortable installing. If the original wiring is intact you can test the switches by shorting the wires in the back of the switch. If it is a bad switch, then change the switches. If you have an electrical tester, I would recomend finding out whether there is even power going to the brake light switches, and then if you still can't find the problem, I would do an ohm test between the wire after the last switch and the bulb socket to check for wire damage.

In one rare case, both sockets and brake lights had "lost contact" due to just enough corrosion to prevent them working. It didn't look bad, but neither light worked because of the problem. Use steel wool to clean out the sockets and the contacts in the base of them, and also to clean off the base of the lamps themselves.

If that doesn't help, email me. I have the same year and I've done a total restoration.

How do you change the flasher unit on a 2001 VW Beetle?

Was an easy one in the end! The flasher unit is built into the Hazard Warning Light button. Just behind the push in part of the button, underneath is a bit where you can lever the entire switch out. Once removed, a new one can be slotted into place.
