Are there white bats in North America?
White bats are simply albino bats. Albino animals (or people) are animals with a mutation in the enzymes used to produce dark pigment. All animal species occasionally produce albino animals. Therefore, there is bound to exist white bats every once in a while. However, I am not sure if there is a species of bats that is generally white. That seems to be unlikely because nocturnal birds, like owls, would be able to easily spot white bats in the moonlight and they wouldbe more likely to be eaten than black bats which are harder to spot at night.

What is a difference between a bat and a rat?
A bat has wings. A rat doesn't. A bat is slightly bigger than a rat. A rat is small. A bat eats larger things. A rat eats scraps. A bat does not have a pink little tail. The rat does. A bat does not wander as much as rats do. And rats are mostly seen in dirty places such as subways, sewers, abandoned or dirty houses, and in the cities such as Queens for example. Some even in the brightest place like the tip of a mountain in the middle of a hot Summer day. Bats never expose themselves to so much light and only dwell in places such as caves, abandoned houses, huge mansions, graveyards, and in shadowy, dark forests or jungles.

No. It is never safe to drink any blood. If there is a disease in the blood, it will pass to you because there are always small cuts or openings in your mouth from regular things like brushing your teeth, flossing, etc. (Think about how you spit a little blood after brushing)
Yes there are. Little Brown Bats and Big Brown Bats are common in Edmonton, Alberta.

What are some special features of vampire bats?
There are only three species of vampire bats in the world, and they live only in the Americas, from Mexico to South America, including parts of the Caribbean. They have small bodies, 2 ½ to 3 ½ inches long, and weigh between 1/2 ounce and 1 3/4 ounces. They have fewer teeth than other bats, and have large sharp front teeth for piercing the skin of animals. They soften the animal's skin by licking it, and then bite off hair or feathers before biting through the skin and lapping up the flowing blood from the wound. They have an anticoagulant substance in their saliva that prevents blood from clotting. Although they lap up less than an ounce of blood, smaller animals, such as chickens, sometimes bleed to death because the anticoagulant prevents the blood flow from stopping. Vampire bats have heat sensors in their noses that help them find blood vessels close to the skin of their prey. They have excellent night vision and hunt only when it is fully dark. They have very sensitive hearing, and move quickly when on the ground. They may crawl, run, or jump into the air to escape when threatened.
