Calculators

A calculator is a hand-held inexpensive electronic device used to perform the operations of arithmetic. The simplest calculators can only do addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, while scientific calculators can handle exponential operations, and trigonometric and logarithmic functions.

What is a beaded calculator?

An abacus?

The abacus is the first true precursor to the adding machines and computers which would follow. It worked somewhat like this:

The value assigned to each pebble (or bead, shell, or stick) is determined not by its shape but by its position: one pebble on a particular line or one bead on a particular wire has the value of 1; two together have the value of 2. A pebble on the next line, however, might have the value of 10, and a pebble on the third line would have the value of 100. Therefore, three properly placed pebbles--two with values of 1 and one with the value of 10--could signify 12, and the addition of a fourth pebble with the value of 100 could signify 112, using a place-value notational system with multiples of 10.

Thus, the abacus works on the principle of place-value notation: the location of the bead determines its value. In this way, relatively few beads are required to depict large numbers. The beads are counted, or given numerical values, by shifting them in one direction. The values are erased (freeing the counters for reuse) by shifting the beads in the other direction. An abacus is really a memory aid for the user making mental calculations, as opposed to the true mechanical calculating machines which were still to come.

How do you win calculator chaos?

For the Level 4, 10 divided by 2. Clear. 2 times 2 times 2. Clear. 112 divided 2 divided by 2 divided by 2 divided by 2. Clear. 12 divided by 2 divided by 2. Clear. 12 times 12 divided by 2 divded by 2 divided by 2 divided by 2. You WON! I didn't copy and paste this. I figured out myself and I am only 14. For you idiot aldults who are reading this, you don't have a life if you sit at the computer all day and try figure out kids' games.

What could you do with a slide rule?

You could use it to find the answer to basic mathematical problems. It's like a simple, mechanical calculator.

How do you scroll the screen of a TI-84 silver edition graphing calculator?

To scroll, use the up and down arrows. If you want to scroll faster, press 2ND ALPHA and then use the up and down arrows.

Why don't people use slide rules anymore?

The use of slide rules declined quickly after the introduction of inexpensive calculators. By 1976, calculators could be purchased at prices competitive with slide rules, and since their use did not require special training, they were more accurate, and they had greater functionality, it made little sense for most people to get slide rules.

There are still some slide rules being manufactured for special purposes, however. One such is a circular proportional scale used for determining the size to make a copy on a copy machine according to a different size of paper from the original.

How do you calculate coefficient of determination by using TI-84 Plus calculator?

Enter the data into 2 lists such as L1 and L2. You do this by going to [STAT] and hit [ENTER] on [EDIT]. After you do this then go turn on diagnostic by going to [2ND] [0] scrolling down to Diagnostic on. Then go back to [STAT], right the right arrow to CALC and scroll down the appropriate regression. Once you have chosen the right regression go to [2ND] [1][,][2ND][2][ENTER] this will give you the equation and coefficient of determination

Is there a combination button on a TI-83 Plus?

Yes. For example, if you want to calculate combination(6,2), press 6 and then press MATH. Use the arrow keys to scroll over to PRB at the top and select nCr. Then press 2. You should see:

6 nCr 2

Press ENTER.

Is the abacus an old version of the calculator?

Yes, abacuses (or is it abaci?) were used to calculate simple maths problems.

How to calculate ECD?

Simple equation:

ECD, ppg = [ (annular pressure, loss, psi ) ÷ (0.052 x TVD, ft) ] + (mud weight, in use, ppg)

When was the calculater invented?

The Blaise Pascalâ??s calculator was invented in France during the early 17th century. Its primary usage is to be an adding machine which can be used to add and subtract two numbers. Blaise Pascal invented it with the help of Wilhelm Schickard

Can a graphing calculator perform mathematical calculations like a scientific calculator?

Yes. A graphing calculator has lots of options for mathematical calculations, but in addition, it has a relatively large screen, and options to graph functions.

Name the first calculating device?

It may depend upon the early civilization referred and their records thereof.

Anyway, here are some of the ancient devices chronologically listed below.

  1. pebbles and stones

  2. counting boards

  3. counting rods

How do you calculate root of any number using casio Fx 991MS calculator?

3 simple steps.

i) press square root button

ii) enter the number

iii) hit "="

is it really that hard to figure out?

......

For complex numbers, refer to the definition of a complex number (abs(a)*exp(-j*angle(a)))1/2 = sqrt(abs(a))*exp(-j*angle(a)/2). therefore to do this on the casio fx-991ms try the following(assuming the complex number is stored in the ans):

(sqrt(abs ans))[angle symbol]((arg ans)/2)
