I know this is not a good answer, but the Danish vikings also had a red banner (with a black raven on it), so when the current flag was adopted in the 12th century, it was probably natural to choose red as the main colour. Apart from that red is of course a very visible signal colour, which is used in the flags of many countries.

The Columbia Flag is three colors going horizontally. The top half of the flag is yellow, followed by a quarter of blue, and then a quarter of red.

Prior to 1906, Brunei Darussalam did not have a national flag but personal standards were widely used which were granted by the Sultan. The standards belonging to His Majesty (yellow) and the four Wazirs (Viziers) - Pengiran Bendahara (white), Pengiran Digadong (green), Pengiran Pemancha (black) and Pengiran Temenggong (purple) - were the most important.

The colour scheme of the Brunei Darussalam flag adopted in 1906 was therefore the colours of the principal signatories to the 1906 Agreement which were the colours of the Sultan (yellow), Pengiran Bendahara (white) and Pengiran Pemancha (black).

During the turn of the century, Marcus Garvey was estabishing the Universal Negro Improvement Association(UNIA). He was often ridiculed with comments like 'where is the Black man's Country' or 'Where is the the Black man's flag?' In 1920, at a UNIA convention the flag was adopted to symbolize: Red for the blood binds African people and was shed in the fight for liberation, Black for the people who represent a nation, if not a nation-state and Green for the rich and abundant homeland of Africa

The story is well-entrenched that they would fly different coloured flags at the Globe Theatre to tell the patrons what kind of play was being played: red for history, white for comedy, and black for tragedy. The problem is that the division of the plays into these neat categories did not take place at the time they were first performed, and many plays do not easily fall into these categories.

There is no contemporary record of this practice. There is record of flags being used at the theatres, but no mention of their colour. I think this story is a myth.

One of the planets with a band is Jupiter. Not only is Jupiter massive, but has multiple and striking stripes throughout.

The flag of Sweden (Swedish: Sveriges flagga) is blue with a yellow Scandinavian cross that extends to the edges of the flag. The design and colours of the Swedish flag are believed to have been inspired by the present Coat of arms of Sweden of 1442, which is blue divided quarterly by a cross pattée of gold, and modelled on the Danish flag. Blue and yellow have been used as Swedish colours at least since king Magnus Birgersson's royal coat of arms of 1275.

Canada has a maple leaf on its flag. The flag was officially adopted in 1965.

The cross on the flag from New Zealand is part of the British Union Jack. This is used to represent the country's British heritage. The stars on the flag represent the southern cross.
