The Tennessee flag was adopted in 1905. The designer of the flag, LeRoy Reeves stated that the three stars represent the three geographic regions of the state of Tennessee: The Great Smokey Mountains to the east, the rolling hills and farmland in the middle, and the rich bottom-land cotton growing region bordering the Mississippi River.

Great Britain has not had a flag since 1800. The flag comprised St George's cross (a centred red cross on a white background representing England and Wales, which had been unified in the sixteenth century) and the Saltire (the flag of Scotland; a diagonal white cross on a blue background).

The Union Flag (the flag of the United Kingdom) which came into being on 1 January 1801, added to the above St Patrick's cross, a diagonal red cross on a white background. Until 1922 St Patrick's cross represented Ireland. It now represents Northern Ireland as the fourth part of the United Kingdom.

The colors on the Delaware State Flag represent the colors worn on George Washington's uniform. Many symbols are found in the center, the most notable of which being the ox, representing the importance of animal husbandry to the state's economy, and the militiaman, recognizing the role that citizen-soldiers played in maintaining liberties.
