How long is the British paratrooper officer training?
To become a fully fledged officer in the British Army's Parachute Regiment you must: 1. Pass the 44 week Commissioning Course at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst - the standard course for all aspiring regular officers (except doctors, dentists, lawyers, vets & padres who do their own short 4 week course plus follow on training particular to their specialised roles). Note - RMA Sandhurst is NOT a university; it is a military training school pure & simple. Most British Army officers go to university before attending Sandhurst (approx 85 %) or attend university after commissioning & a few year's service. The average age of Sandhurst entrants is 23. A few Army officers - not many these days - never attend university. The CC at Sandhurst is intensive & includes basic military skills, leadership, tactics, fieldcraft, basic signals, communication, and "War Studies". All potential officers are trained to lead an infantry platoon, & this provides the basic medium of teaching tactics, fieldcraft, leadership etc.. After Sandhurst newly commissioned Second Lieutenants proceed to "Special To Arm Training" - ie that which is specific to their chosen branch of service: Infantry, Armour, Artillery, Logistics, Engineers, Signals, Air Corps, Intelligence etc.. For a potential Para Regt officer this is: 2. The All Arms Pre Parachute Selection Course (P Company) run by Airborne Forces/ Para Regt - a prerequisite for anyone wishing to serve in Airborne Forces. This course lasts 4 weeks (3 weeks build up training + Test Week) and is VERY physically demanding. It includes many endurance marches carrying rifle & heavy loads, various obstacle courses, a log race, a stretcher race, and "milling" - a one on one "boxing match" during which you are not allowed to take evasive action; you must attack your opponent at all times, & and take whatever he throws at you. All P Company training is conducted at a furious pace (eg candidates are expected to run/ march 10 miles in 90 minutes in boots whilst carrying a load in excess of 45 pounds - believe me, that's hard!) and aggression is emphasised throughout. Typically less than half of P Company candidates pass. If you fail you can not serve in Airborne Forces. 3. After P Company successful candidates go to the RAF's Parachute Training School for the 4 week Basic Parachute Course; 8 jumps culminating in a fully rigged night jump from 650 feet (Para Regt goes in low & fast - operational jumps are often from 450 feet) qualifies you as a military parachutist, and at the end of this course you get your wings. 4. Finally, having qualified as a paratrooper, he then must pass the standard Infantry Officer's Special To Arm Training - the Platoon Commander's Battle Course, run by the School of Infantry: 12 weeks of training focused on the particular requirements of a specialist Infantry officer. It builds on the basic Infantry training provided at Sandhurst but develops tactical appreciation, command skills etc and covers not only platoon but also company & battalion & "All Arms Battle Group" scenarios. So, in total it takes 64 weeks to train as an officer in the Parachute Regt..

How do you plan to achieve a goal?
You identify what you goals are and write them down.
You then think about what you need to do to get to those goals and write out the steps you have identified.
You then think about which steps need doing before others and put all the steps in order.
You then think about how you would measure the fact that you had successfully achieved each step and what you will have to do if you have not (a contingency) and write all this down
What you have now written down is a meaningful plan to achieve your goals.
