Where did the Battle of Puebla take place?

Mexico
The Battle of Puebla occured when French emperor Napoleon III invaded Mexico (along with other European powers, Spain and Britain) to collect debts owed by the Mexican government. While Britain and Spain withdrew their men, Napoleon occupied the Mexican port city of Veracruz. On May 5, 1862, French and Mexican forces met in combat near the Mexican city of Puebla. The Mexican forces defeated the French forces, providing a major morale boost to the occupied Mexican population. The victory is celebrated to this day, in the form of Cinco de Mayo (the fifth of May). In popular folklore, the Cinco de Mayo victory was that of the peasant fighting in the streets for Mexico's Independence from European domination. That view makes for excellent fireside chats, family fables and morality tales but lacks historical accuracy. Ignacio Zaragoza was a skillfull commander and deserving of the rank of General in the Mexican Army. His Army of about 4,500 troops was 20 percent smaller then the French forces commanded by Charles de Lorenncz, but Zaragoza was in the well fortified defenses of Puebla, had superior artillery and they were a battle hardened force. Much of the French Invading force was ill and consisted of Parade Ground or pretty uniformed troops with very little combat training and experience. It was a resounding victory for Mexico.

Are Americans in danger if they move to Monterrey Mexico?

Monterrey has had its own share of violence due to the war on drugs. It however, has lowered its murder rate from previous years and nowadays it is as safe as say, Milwaukee, or Oklahoma City in the United States.

The statistic used is the murder rate, or murders and non-negligent manslaughters per 100,000 people, throughout a year. In the case of Monterrey the murder rate is 14.5 (2013). This puts the city as safe as other cities such as Milwaukee (15.2) or Oklahoma City (14.3), which are in turn much smaller cities than Monterrey: 0.59 and 0.595 million vs. 1.1 million (city proper only).

Can a person who is married in Mexico marry someone else in the US?

No, the Mexican national will still have to get a Mexican passport. The US citizen will have to petition the husband in the USA (lots of paperwork) and wait for the appointment date, which may take several months. The appointment will be made in a US Consulate in Mexico and both spouses have to go. The spouse will have to get medical exams, fingerprints, photographs, etc, and they will indicate where you have to go get them done. Appointment may be in Monterrey, Piedras Negras or somewhere else. After the appointment and if the spouse is approved, he will get the legal documents to turn in at the US/Mexico border. This is a time consuming and costly procedure. Just because a person is a US citizien the spouse does not automatically get the green card or legal residency. It doesn't work like that any more. Especially after 911.

Can I divorce my husband without him in Mexico?

The law looks at marriage as a partnership contract and if one does not wish to remain in the contract any more (divorce) then they do not have to. This holds true whether or not the other spouse is present or wishes to stay in the marriage. That being said, divorces in other countries must conform with the laws of that country and courts do prefer to at least have the signature of the other spouse and you will be required to at least make attempts at giving him notice.

Can an illegal immigrant come to the US from Mexico and get married or does he or she have to go back to Mexico?

Not until he/she gets a green card or at least permission by the USCIS, based on your marriage in Mexico. Now about the name jumble: It would be in his/her favor that he/she did not use his/her real name in the USA while illegal, specially since he/she has been deported at least once. That is if he/she never used his/her real name while illegally in the USA, so as far as the INS is concerned, he/she was never here (the USA). That said, I hope that he/she used his/her real name when she married you in Mexico. I think you know why. Now, go to the USCIS or an immigration attorney and file the paperwork to bring you foreing husband/wife to the USA. Actually, it's OK if he/she (the immigrant) used his/her real name while illegally in the U.S. As long as he/she did not give his/her real name when deported. The reason for this is the possible 3 to 10-year ban for entering the country illegally AND being deported at least once.

If two Americans got married on a cruise ship in Mexico is their marriage legally binding in the US?

ShortIf the marriage is legal in Mexico, it will be legal in the US. DetailedThe following are the requirements for marriage in the Federal District (Mexico City). However, marriage requirements prevailing in the thirty-one states of Mexico are in general very similar to those of the Federal District.

1. An American or other foreigner wishing to be married in Mexico must present to the appropriate Civil Registry certain documents described in the paragraphs below. All documents from the U.S., except for the valid U.S. passport, must be authenticated by an American authority (usually the Secretary of State), from the state where they originated, who attaches an "Apostille" to the document.

2. In Mexico, only civil marriage is recognized as legal. Persons wishing to do so may also have a religious ceremony, but it has no legal effect and does not replace in any way the legal binding civil marriage. A civil wedding in Mexico is fully valid for legal purpose in the U.S.

3. Civil marriages are performed by the Civil Registry of each municipality (Registro Civil). The address of the main office of Mexico City's Civil Registry is:

Oficina del Registro Civil Arcos de Belen y Doctor Andrade 06720 Mexico, D.F. tel. (011-52-5) 578-7140

4. Marriages are performed without charge at the premises of the "Registro Civil". They may also be performed elsewhere, but in this case a fee is charged which should be ascertained from the "Registro Civil".

5. Persons desiring to marry must fill out at an application at the corresponding office of the "Registro Civil", which will include a statement as to whether they wish to marry under the system of joint or separate marital property. This application will have to be accompanied by a certificate from a physician in Mexico that they are free of those diseases which are impediments to marriage (a blood test and X-rays taken in Mexico are required).

6. Foreigners are not subject to a residence requirement but will have to identify themselves by a presentation of their tourist cards and of a valid passport and a copy of their birth certificates authenticated and translated as described in paragraph 1 above. Foreigners planning to marry a Mexican citizen should pay particular attention to the special requirements listed in paragraph 9 below.

7. Persons previously married must present proof of the termination of that marriage in the form of a divorce decree or death certificate. If the divorce or death took place outside of Mexico, it must be authenticated and translated in accordance with the information given in paragraph 1 above. Divorced people cannot marry in Mexico until one year after the termination of the divorce.

8. Persons under the age of eighteen cannot be married without the consent of their parents or legal guardians. If the parents or guardians cannot be present at the marriage, they must grant a power of attorney to another individual to exercisethe parental consent at the ceremony. This power of attorney must be authenticated and translated in accordance with the instructions given in paragraph 1 above.

In sum, the marriage has to be legally reconized in Mx before it will be recognized in the US.

Can you travel to Mexico with a warrant?

Well, that depends upon whether the police catch you.

A warrant means the police intend to arrest you. So if your id is run by the police when you exit or enter the country, you the warrant will show up and you will be arrested.

If you fly by airplane, your id will likely get you arrested. If you go by car you will likely get into Mexico OK, but could get tagged on the way back in.

Of course, you can cross the border like the illegals do, and then it doesnt matter unless you get caught.

Short answer - get the warrant cleared.

Why is pollution a problem in Mexico City?

Overpopulation, irresponsible consumer habits and geography create a "perfect storm" in Mexico City that allows air pollution to be the problem it is there.

The city sits in a valley surrounded by mountains. Smog from manufacturing and chemical plants as well as vehicle exhaust fumes get trapped by the surrounding mountains due to lack of any powerful-enough winds. This makes up the layer of gloom that sits over the valley due to a "cook-pot effect".

This smog can cause burning in the eyes and throat of visitors not used to it within a few days, especially in those with sensitivities to pollutants.
