What was it like in holland during World War 2?

I was 12 y.old then and I am 78 now. Looking back it was exiting then, maybe not a nice description. Always something new happened. We were in the underground and helped to hide jews and other young men wanted by the enemy, we hid them successfully. It is easy to be in the underground, no uniforms, different names and numbers and fake addresses and using code etc etc. a real challenge indeed, hence the exitement. An enemy uniform is always a target. Well, the outcome, Germany surrendered. The freedom parties were the most memorable in my life. Freedom freedom, I'l never forget and always will appreciate it. While celebrating in church a US soldier 101st Airborn, walked in with a girl on his arm. In that same church some years laters I, belonging to the 101st walked in with a girl on my arm and married her there, thanks be to God for her and our freedom, she was my little girlfriend when I was 12 y. old. She's she greatest wife of over 50 yeasr of marriage. I lover sharing this. Peter Kamper

Your father was a Dutch citizen when you were born are you eligible for a Dutch passport if you are a U.S. citizen?

Yes, a child born from a Dutch parent is eligible for Dutch citizenship and passport. You can contact the Dutch embassy or consulate for help with the process. The younger the child is at time of application the easier the process. ---- You might want to search www.minbuza.nl - the website of the Dutch Department of Foreign Affairs. You have the option of viewing it in English. According to the law, if your baby's father has now acknowledged the child as his while in utero, it might prove difficult or even impossible to obtain Dutch citizenship for your baby. On the other hand, if the mother was a Dutch citizen, the child would have been eligible for Dutch citizenship regardless of mom's acknowledgement dring pregnancy. Sounds old fashioned, but it's the law.

Where did the Dutch claim or colonize territory?

The Dutch in the form of the Netherlands or earlier the United Provinces had a substantial colonial empire.

The Dutch East India Company (VOC) and later the Dutch State controlled what is now Indonesia (Dutch East Indies) and the island chain it is part of in south east Asia. This was the most important holding and they only gave it up after the World War Two. They also, oddly, had control of what is now Taiwan for a period.

They also colonised bits of what is now the north east US, New York was New Amsterdam before being captured by James Duke of York and most of Dutch North America was absorbed into the new British colonies.

They also had holdings in the Caribbean (and still have a couple of islands) and the north east coast of South America.

The Dutch also set up Cape Colony - which was taken from them by the British (twice) and became the modern State of South Africa eventually - and a couple of other colonies in Africa.

It should be noted that since Holland/Dutch Republic/Netherlands/United Provinces went through a lot of changes of control and territory itself (arguably taking over Britain at one point and was nearly absorbed into France at another.) their colonial empire waxed and waned with the fortunes of the mother country and they didn't hold all of the above at the same time.

It really depends on what you mean by "popular".

All of the Christian movements combined in the world constitutes the religion with the largest number of members. At the moment 2.3 billion Christians make up about 32% of the worlds population. That's closely followed by Islam with about 23%.

So according to the numbers, Christianity is the most popular.

It has recently been observed that Christians are now the most persecuted people group in the world.

So according to society's reaction, Christianity is the most unpopular religion in the world.

I guess being popular isn't everything...
