The British decided to partition the Indian subcontinent because of the conflict that Hindus and Muslims had with each other.

India gave a Prince a piece of the country, which was very beautiful, for him to have his palace and rule. It was passed down for generations and then they died out. Pakistanis live here and so do Indians. It followed many Indian traditions and teachings even though Pakistanis lived here too. It kind of broke into a fight to see which country it should belong to- Pakistan (with the major religion in Kashmir) or India (who previously owned it). They decided to have a vote. Pakistan needed a lake there to survive but, some thought it was India's now. The vote was coming up but- Pakistan attacked. They went into a city in India and terrorized it for the land. This cancelled the voting and we still don't know who the land belongs to. What country do you think it should be?

Well ! Pakistan has been facing energy crises for the past 4 years. The electricity produced there does't fulfil the needs. So, they need to build more dams to create more electricity to meet the needs of the population.

Israel and Pakistan have no diplomatic relations, but are not currently in a State of War. Pakistan has not attempted, militarily or politically, to prevent Israeli or Palestinian interests from being realized in the Gaza Strip.

Poverty in Pakistan is a growing concern. Although the middle-class has grown in Pakistan, nearly one-quarter of the population is classified poor as of October 2006.[1]. The declining trend in poverty as seen in the country during the 1970s and 1980s was reversed in the 1990s by poor federal policies and rampant corruption.[2] This phenomenon has been referred to as the poverty bomb.[3] The government of Pakistan with help from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has prepared an Interim Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper[4] that suggests guidelines to reduce poverty in the country. As of 2006, Pakistan's Human Development Index (HDI) is 0.539, higher than that of nearby Bangladesh's 0.530, which was formerly a part of the country itself. Pakistan's HDI still stands lower than that of neighbouring India's at 0.611. Incidences of poverty in Pakistan rose from 22-26% in the fiscal year 1991 to 32-35% in the fiscal year 1999. They have subsequently fallen to 25-26% according to the reports of the World Bank and the UN Development Program reports. These reports contradict the claims made by the Government of Pakistan that the poverty rates are only 23.1%.[1] According to estimates by international NGO's, 74% of Pakistan's population, or 122 million people, live under $2 a day, compared to 72.2% for Sub-Saharan Africa.[5], and some 15%, or 30 million people live under $1 a day.[6]Wealth Distribution in Pakistan is highly uneven, with 10% of the population earning 27.6% of income[7]According to the United Nations Human Development Report, Pakistan's human development indicators, especially those for women, fall significantly below those of countries with comparable levels of per-capita income.40% of the population has no access to safe drinking water, and 50% has no access to sanitation. Pakistan also has a higher infant mortality rate (88 per 1000) than the South Asian average (83 per 1000).[8]

British used to rule India. When the natives were allowed to have independence in 1947, two states were to be created - one for Muslims and other for Hindus. Many states were Princely states- They were run by local princes and used to give tribute to British Empire. It was let on those princely states to decide whom they want to join or want to be independent. Three states which were contentious were;

1. State of Hyderabad

2. State of Junagarh and Manawar

3. State of Jammuh and Kashmir.

First two states decided to join Pakistan. They were Muslim majority states too but India occupied these. Pakistan was unable to do anything as it was just been created. The third state, the state of Jammuh and Kashmir decided to join India. It was also muslim majority state. The people of that state revolted against this decision. This resulted in three wars between India and Pakistan. India does not discuss occupation of first two states and discuss only Kashmir. Source of five rivers is Kashmir so its vital for both countries to control Kashmir. According to Pakistan india set the precedence and whole situation should be viewed in larger context. India wants to focus only on Kashmir.

Britain had to divide India because Muslims of India wanted a separate homeland for them to practice their religion freely. Pakistan came into being on 14th August 1947.
