Lead contamination is a common environmental hazard. The most common cause of lead contamination is industrial use of lead. This includes manufacturing of lead-acid batteries, use of lead in manufacturing paint and water contamination through use of taps and pipes manufactured from lead. The population living close to industrial units that use lead for manufacturing their products are likely to have higher blood lead levels.

As well as this, the modern trains, eg, the N700A, uses 19% less energy than the 1999 models because of clever developments in technical areas such as regenerative braking and computer speed control.

Oil contaminate and kills the sea. Oil is a toxin, which would kill the sea life in a matter of seconds.

If you use electricity, or ride in a car, or drink a can of beverage, then you are, in a small way, contributing to global warming. Global warming is happening because billions of us are all doing the same as you.

Water pollution can be controlled by the following measures: minimizing pollution generation, treatment of waste-water at the source, etc. In-situ pollution control measures like dredging, aeration of lakes and reservoirs, etc., can also be taken.

These cells contains Murcury, cadmium and various pollutents. Even in the rechargeable cells when they are inally dumped can cause a huge damage to the environment. But there are various clean methods of generating electricity without the pollution. Generating electricity with fallig water or hydro electricity is one of the clean ways of generating electricity. This is the majour source of electricity used in Sri Lanka. The initial cost is heigher; but in long run, it needs nothing but constantly falling water. Solar cells are also a clean source of electricity. This is good for small scale electricity requirements. Costs a lot, but good in long run. Needs little maintainance and no fuel but Sun Shine.

Perhaps barytes include among their more noted applications and uses their role in the drilling for gas and oil; and in the making of inks, paints, papers, and TV screens.
