What do australians eat as their national dish?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

So we don't really have a "national dish" as such. We do enjoy Vegemite on toast or Vegemite with cheese and some people i know eat Vegemite out of the jar. we also have an energy drink called "Milo" that has been around for over a hundred years. it's kind of a chocolate sprinkle thing that you spoon into a glass and then add milk to.

we eat a lot of meat. steak. sausages. chicken. I think we may be one of the only countries that eat our national emblems as well, kangaroo and emu [although not many people do, i for example have never eaten kangaroo, emu, snake or shark.]

Beer. we drink alot of that. we love our seafood, fish and chips with tomato sauce, [ketchup] with prawns.

Aboringals eat witchity grubs, [itchy catapiller things] and flowers and other native flora and fauna.

basically we eat just about anything. if you ever get the opportunity to come here it is beautiful. i myself live in the state of Queensland witch has beautiful beaches and islands, i lived in a small outback town for 5 years as well in Queensland. we have Brisbane as our capital and the Great Barrier Reef. WE ARE NOT RACIST!!! i promise you with an exception of a few idiots, we are all very nice down to earth people.

no, we do not ride kangaroos to school. and they do not jump down our main streets.

The 2008 rice crop of 19,400 tonnes is the lowest in the Australian rice sector's history (since 1928),and represents just over 1% of normal production. This is not surprising given rice is an opportunistic crop in its fifth year of drought. ( Australian Farmers Federation)

What country did lamington cakes come from?

User Avatar

Asked by Wiki User

Lamingtons were invented in Queensland, Australia in 1900. There name comes Charles Cochrane-Baillie, 2nd Baron of Lamington, who was Governor of Queensland at the time. It is believed by some that one of his maids dropped a piece of cake into chocolate, and that the governor suggested the coconut so as not to dirty their fingers. This is just one of a number of stories as to how the first lamington came about. During the 1900's, left over cake would be made into lamingtons to hide the fact it was staling.
