Found this on another site. It worked on my E46 2002 Compact.

BMW 2001 to current  Ignition Off (Position 0)  Press and Hold the trip odometer button while turning key to position 1 (ACCESSORY)  Keep the button depressed (about 5 secs.) until you see "Oil Service" or "Inspection" with "Reset" or "Re" in the display*  Press the button again and hold for approx. 5 secs. until "Reset" or "Re" flashes  While the display is flashing, briefly press the button again to reset the Service Interval. Why does the trunk lid open on its own?

could be a short in the electronic release on your trunk latch. if you have one of those handy lil remotes that opens your trunk for you, that meaans theres a little electronic switch that's hooked to your latch. if there is a short " 1 or 2 wires toucing each other or something metal in your car" that could be a problem. does it happen when you go over bumps ? or another reason is that your latch could be adjusted to loose and needs to be tightened, the loop lowered ect. could be many things with all of the electronics in cars today. it is either mechanical, " whole trunk lock assmbly is to loose" or electronic " the electric switch hooked to your latch, or maybe a short in the remote that keeps popping when not wanted. those are a couple options to think about.

Can you put a BMW 97m3 engine in a BMW 97 528i?

I'm sure you could, anything is possible. Its all about mechanical knowledge. But the biggest difference between a 3 series and an m3 isn't just the motor itself, an m3 has adjusted suspension and ride height, a more performance oriented transmission with minor motor upgrades and a stronger tuning setup in the computer to control all the power being produced under the hood

It depends on your mechanic, and what he charges for his services. I want to know why you wish to replace the head. Are you sure it is beyond repair? Is the head cast steel or aluminum? Hard to answer your question w/o full knowledge of the problem. I would guess the cost at or about 450-900 dollars.

What is the security code release procedure for radio BMW 316 i?

Radio Security Code and Programming/Service Mode

The "Radio Code" is an antitheft device. If someone steals the radio the code must be entered to activate the radio. Likewise, if the car's battery goes dead or is disconnected for safety reasons during service the radio will prompt you to enter the code when power is re-applied.

The radio will display:

CODE - - - - -

Enter the 5-digit Radio Code using the radios preset buttons. This number also appears on your Radio Code card assuming you have one.

After entering the fifth digit press the > button and the radio will activate. Any presets you had before the power loss will return. Apparently a capacitor in the radio holds that information.

To retrieve your radio's serial number without removing it from the dash. Enter the radio's programming/service mode. To do this, turn on the radio then, hold down the M button on the left lower portion of the radio's faceplate for about 10 seconds. The display will change to the radio's serial number. To scroll through the various displays press the + button on the left upper portion of the radio. To get out of programming/service mode turn the radio off by pressing the volume control.

The following information is not in the radio owner's manual.

When in programming/service mode you can scroll through a variety of displays. The only display of any real importance is the GAL. There is no information about GAL in the owner's manual. Please read below.

GAL (adjustable 1,2,3,4,5,6 using radio preset buttons). This sets the speed sensitive volume control. The higher the number the loader the radio volume automatically becomes as you hit 40mph. It compensates for wind noise due to the top being down. When you slow to below 40mph it returns to your original (idle) setting. I have used it as high as 5 in summer and turned it down to 4 in winter when the top is up. Set to best meet your needs.

the Best way to explain this is once you have your security release code, you just type in the code regardless of what comes up on the screen. You usually have 3 attempts. so for example if your code is 12345. You input this via the radio number buttons corresponding to your code usually on the bottom of your stereo next to the scan buttons. you usually have the number 1 displayed on your radio screen ( signifying your first attempt.) Just input the security code corresponding to your radio number key pad, do this like inputting your ATM pin number, no breaks, you don't have to press enter just do it continuously ie 12345 and once done press the Right Arrow button ie usually your volume control button > ( Mine has a big button that has this printed on it =
