How can you shower with a spiral fractured toe?

How do you tell if a finger is broken?

Well, the only time it's real easy to tell that a limb is broken is when it can bend or has bent between two joints. Any other situation pretty much require medical knowledge.

Easy rules like "if you can move it it's not broken" aren't proof, as it will depend on both the break and the person's pain threshold too much.
The only time you can safely tell that a finger or any other limb is broken w/o x-rays is when it's bending or bent between two joints, in a place where it should be stiff and straight.
I broke my pinkie (avulsion fracture), playing Volleyball. It was swollen right in the middle part of my finger. My coach, teammates and friends told me that if I broke it I wouldn't be able to bend it. And guess what? I could bend it and I did brake it. So don't delay getting it x-rayed because you can bend it if it is broken. Now that I have waited 4 weeks to get it x-rayed, and now it will screw up my season in volleyball. If it remains swollen after 10 days get it checked. I seriously regret not going to the doctor. Take Care.
just go see a dr, or (I think) you can't move it/it hurts bad

Can you move a broken finger?

Depends on your tolerance for pain, where the break is, and what you mean by moving it.

Trying to get a limb to bend between joints is a classic way of checking for fractures, so yeah a broken finger can be moved - but it'll be painful.

If the question is about - say making a fist with a broken finger - well, you're unlikely to be able to curl it up real tight, b/c of pain. But you may well be able to wiggle it about a bit.

How hard do you have to hit to break someones rib?

You don't have to hit that hard at all. Ribs are fairly fragile, but it also depends on which rib and where you hit the rib. The bottom ribs are obviously easier to break than the top ribs.

I broke my older sisters ribs when I was 12 years old( I'm the younger sister, not brother). That was before I had any Martial Arts training. Now that I know how, I try to avoid hitting people. You can do a surprising amount of damage to another person with just your hands.

Peoples ribs are broken all the time just doing CPR. And that's pressure not impact.

How are casts and splints used for immobilization?

Casts are applied by a physician, a nurse, or an assistant. They are custom-made to fit each person, and are usually made of plaster or fiberglass. Fiberglass weighs less than plaster, is more durable, and allows the skin more adequate airflow.
