Where is a wireless router connected to a computer or modem?

A wireless router will usually be connected directly to a high speed modem between the modem and any other device. This allows the router to correctly pass internet requests from the local network (computers connected wirelessly or to a standard port) to the ISP (the high speed modem connected to the Internet port).

Connecting a wireless router to a computer would be unusual but it could function if connected to the network port on the computer provided the router-computer connection was properly configured. In this case the computer would have to be configured to route.

What is the best cable to use for DSL?

Cat6 cable is the very best. There is a Cat7 in the works but it is not yet readily available and the connector is different. So if you get Cat6 you have the very best available that will work on most everything. Coax DSL cable is superior but mainly used in industrial applications. A Cat6 shielded cable is also quite effective. In a pinch i have run two Cat6 side by side and punched the blue and orange of the first and the green and brown of the second cable on a single jack. This prevents crosstalk thus data loss. The Cat7 cable is a joke. It does not use an rj45 and is heavily shielded as to almost make it impractical.

Full meaning of rms?

RMS stands for root mean square. In electronics, it is the so-called DC equivalent voltage of a sine wave. It is the amount of DC voltage that would be applied to a resistance heating device to give the same heating as the AC voltage it measures. In a 120 volt AC circuit that powers up a toaster to toast bread, the peak of the sine wave is at almost 170 volts. The sine wave goes from zero up to 170 volts and then back to zero. It then goes down to -170 volts, and then back up to zero to repeat the cycle. If we applied a 120 DC battery to the nichrome wire heating elements in the toaster, it would toast the bread the same way the AC sine wave did, and in the same time. There is a mathematical explanation of root mean square, and it can be found by using the link below to the Wikipedia post on this idea from statistics. (The character set here will not support posting it.)

How does hi speed dial up work?

Almost exactly like regular dialup, except that the ISP is compressing the data sent to/from your computer so that it travels faster. There is some overhead on your computer for the software to handle this, so some older or less peppy computers will slow down using this model.

Can you play old computer games on new computers?

There are several options for installing old games on newer computers. A common problem is that 16-bit games do not run on 64-bit computers. One option may be to install a 32-bit operating system. If that is unfeasible, then there are still other options.

Some of the 16-bit games have 32-bit versions. For instance, if you play Doom, Doom 2, Hexen, Heretic, Duke Nukem 3D and similar, there are 3rd-party game engines. So you can install an alternative game engine and copy in your genuine game files and use the 3rd-party game engine to play the game files. Good Ole Games is a company that takes some of the older classics from MS-DOS days and converts them to 32-bit Windows versions. So from them, you can get things like Beneath a Steel Sky, Kingpin: Life of Crime, and all of the Police Academy games.

Another option is to install an emulator program. DOS Box is one example. It will give you a 16-bit compatible DOS command line window where you can run many of the old 16-bit compatible programs, including games. Not everything will work, and there may be some performance issues, but it is still a handy program. There are other emulators as well.

There are also emulators for other platforms. For instance, there are emulators for most of the older gaming consoles, and even older computers like TI 99/4A, Atari 800, etc. To use the console emulators, you would need the cartridge binaries. Some people have extracted the cartridge code and copied it to PC files, and if you have a compatible console emulator, you can run it. Of course, if you download such cartridge binary dump files, you do need to have the rights to use it. Downloading a binary of a cartridge game you already own is legal, but downloading a game you never owned (or have transferred to another) is not.

What technique is used to achieve 1-Gbps throughput over a CAT 5 cable?

CAT5 cable is actually not able to sustain 1Gbps transfer rates, as the two pairs that are used only for grounding in CAT5, and are used for signal in CAT6, are not controlled as tightly as is necessary for full throughput. A gigabit network, finding itself connected with CAT5 cable, will degrade itself to 300Mbps.

Is 3000 k faster then 1.0 mbps?

What are the major differences between cable modems and DSL modems?

Cable modem connects through fibre optic DLS through phone line. Cable boasts faster speed than DSL Internet in theory. However, cable does not always deliver on the promise in everyday practical use. Cable modem services can slow down significantly if many people in your neighborhood access the Internet simultaenously. Both cable modem and DSL performance vary from one minute to the next depending on the pattern of use and traffic congestion on the Internet. DSL and cable Internet providers often implement so-called "speed caps" that limit the bandwidth of their services. Some home networks cannot match the speed of the Internet connection, lowering your performance

How do you connect three routers in packet tracer?

To connect multiple routers in PacketTracer 5.2, first select the "routers" section in the bottom left hand corner. From there, you can drag two routers from the pane to the right onto the working area (the large white space on your screen). Once both routers are on the screen, click "connections" (the lightning bolt) in the lower left, and click on "Automatically choose connection type" (the first one) OR "Copper crossover" (the fourth one). You will get a cursor that looks somewhat like a taser gun. Click once on each router, and you will see a cable created between them with a red dot on either end. You can now configure and power on both routers, and they will be able to communicate.

Be sure when configuring both routers that you go into the Interface section and check that at least one FastEthernet port is set as "ON", so that the routers can communicate.

Is it possible to connect a WiFi modem to another home line?

I wifi modem is a modem that connects to you internet service provide (usually cable could be fiber or DSL) which also and has wifi capabilities. If you phrased the question properly this is both a modem and router in one unit. You can connect multiple PCs to wifi routers/modem. You can also have setups of wired computers and wireless pcs all sharing a router, provided it has enough ports. When you say homeline I am a bit confused, does this mean multiple pcs or multiple inputs from ISP into router. I have never seen a modem that has multiple cable/telephone inputs. I would think the benefit you are looking for here would be to increase your bandwidth. If you need more bandwith you need to contact your ISP and change to a different package. If you just want to run multiple pcs using one modem/wifi router, your good to go. If you run into setup problems (ideally its Plug and Play) call your ISP and they will walk you through it.

Is it safe for a modem and wireless router to be set-up in the baby's room?

There is no experimental evidence that routers cause any harm. Modem is safe for sure because it transports all signals through cable. With router it's more complicated. If you want to be on safe side do not put router in the baby's room (just in case).
