This allows the router to correctly pass internet requests from the local network (computers connected wirelessly or to a standard port) to the ISP (the high speed modem connected to the Internet port).

Connecting a wireless router to a computer would be unusual but it could function if connected to the network port on the computer provided the router-computer connection was properly configured. In this case the computer would have to be configured to route.

Cat6 cable is the very best. There is a Cat7 in the works but it is not yet readily available and the connector is different. So if you get Cat6 you have the very best available that will work on most everything. Coax DSL cable is superior but mainly used in industrial applications. A Cat6 shielded cable is also quite effective. In a pinch i have run two Cat6 side by side and punched the blue and orange of the first and the green and brown of the second cable on a single jack. To connect multiple routers in PacketTracer 5.2, first select the "routers" section in the bottom left hand corner. From there, you can drag two routers from the pane to the right onto the working area (the large white space on your screen). Once both routers are on the screen, click "connections" (the lightning bolt) in the lower left, and click on "Automatically choose connection type" (the first one) OR "Copper crossover" (the fourth one). You will get a cursor that looks somewhat like a taser gun. Click once on each router, and you will see a cable created between them with a red dot on either end. You can now configure and power on both routers, and they will be able to communicate.

Be sure when configuring both routers that you go into the Interface section and check that at least one FastEthernet port is set as "ON", so that the routers can communicate.

I wifi modem is a modem that connects to you internet service provide (usually cable could be fiber or DSL) which also and has wifi capabilities. If you phrased the question properly this is both a modem and router in one unit. You can connect multiple PCs to wifi routers/modem. You can also have setups of wired computers and wireless pcs all sharing a router, provided it has enough ports. When you say homeline I am a bit confused, does this mean multiple pcs or multiple inputs from ISP into router. I have never seen a modem that has multiple cable/telephone inputs. I would think the benefit you are looking for here would be to increase your bandwidth. If you need more bandwith you need to contact your ISP and change to a different package. If you just want to run multiple pcs using one modem/wifi router, your good to go. If you run into setup problems (ideally its Plug and Play) call your ISP and they will walk you through it.

There is no experimental evidence that routers cause any harm. Modem is safe for sure because it transports all signals through cable. With router it's more complicated. If you want to be on safe side do not put router in the baby's room (just in case).

Think of it this way. If you had an identical twin and both of you are named exactly the same, how will people tell you apart?
