This is a very simplistic answer so I suggest that you look further into Canada's history. By the way, during the War Canada supplied the US with war material.

Why did Canada help at Normandy beach?

Canada was a provence of United Kingdom(i.e. England) and were part of the Allies. Early in the War, Canada trained troops and sent them to England. For a long time, their troops were not used in combat. A group of them were used in the Dieppe Raidwhich failed. So the Canadian people pressured their government to send their troops in the war so they could fight. At the last minute of the planning for Operation HUSKY, Churchill recommended that the Canadian troops be used in the invasion of Sicily. Eventually, the 1st Canadian Division was substituted for the 3rd British Division. The Chief of the Imperial General Staff immediately sent word of inclusion of Canadian troops in Operation HUSKY to the Allied commander in the Mediterranean Theater. The 1st Canadian Division and the 3rd British Division met on all levels to transfer plans on the operation. Their cooperation went so well, that the 3rd British Division and the 2nd Canadian Division were later combined together in the Normandy invasion.

How did World War 2 affect the Canadian economy?

It did the job enough to end the depression. when the men went off to war, the women began to work (you've seen the schnieders commercial) and lots of jobs became open in factories supplying munitions and the like.

Although at the end of the war, when the troops came home, in most cases, their pre-war jobs were taken and they had to start over. Ask any veteran, and they'll tell you:

"There's nothing like a war to get the economy going again"
