The air transfer door module needs to be replaced. Special tool required and is available at the dealership. This tool reduces the laboour charge from a 4.5 hour job to a .6 hour job. There is a technical service bulliten published about the tool and the fix so get the dealer to look it up. Don't get ripped off. To do it yourself it is a complete dash removal so it is well worth it to pay a Chevy dealership.

Rings or valve seals are the most common. Depends on when it smokes and if it is blue=burning oil. If it smokes blue all of the time, I'd check the compression, that might point to rings. If it is at start up or after idleing a few minutes then taking off, I'd check the valve seals.
The LS1s have a shotty PCV system, some have added a catch can and LS6 valve covers to cure the slight smoking. However, if you have bad rings or valve seals, doing those 2 things won't solve your problem...

I changed them going underneath. It was hard to get to because the car was so low to the ground. Just get a handy light you can place on the ground (in the upward position) and lift the front of the car off of the ground onto 2 jack stands. Next time I will pay someone to do it.

Because Ex Manifold, AC pipe, wall are on the way to ratchet, You should use wobble extension rod and 3/4" combination wrench and 3/4 box wrench.
(3/4 will fit over spark plug socket)
I was thinking that changing spark plugs was easy job but spent whole day to figure out how geometrize it.
use different set with ratchet, extension, and open wrench for each plugs.
I use 3/4 combination wrench with spark plug socket for #5 (no room for ratchet)
I use 3/4 box with wobble extension over spark plug socket (because short extension was just little bit short and medium extension was too long ) for #3 & #4
If you have foot long water pipe(1.5 inch or so dia) to use as extension of ratchet handle, it will help too. I use it for #1 & #2
unless you want to dismount whole exhaust from engine, you need patient.

It depends on where the wire is being connected on the alternator. It could be the alternator or it could be a damaged wire or connector. It's something that you will need to track down.
