How can you confirm ignition switch problem on a 2000 Chevy Impala?

Not a clear way to post the question, will try to add detail here for the problem. 2000 Impala. Will ON OCCASSION not turn the engine over. This was also a problem when the car was new and under warranty, and eventually the dealership replaced the battery claiming a dead cell had been detected. At that time you could restart the car by jumping it. About 6 months ago it would not start, my wife had the car jumped, and it started. She purchased a new battery that day. A few weeks later it would not start, but when jumped would start again. Would not start again a month or so after that, dealership was close to the car, they came and checked it out, would up replacing a module. We also purchased a self contained jump starter system to keep in the car. This past weekend I was in the car. We stopped the car, and turned off the ignition. The boys got out of the back seat, and I wanted to talk to someone so put the ignition switch in ACC position and lowered the window. When we were ready to go, the car would not start. Cycled the ignition switch several times. No cranking at all. Lights, etc were fine. Hooked up the jump start system, would not crank. Verified jump start had power in it. Took key out of ignition several times, and tried to switch with no cranking. I finally pulled the key out. Then cycled COMPLETELY through the ignition position slowly, stopping at each setting to the START position, and it immediately cranked over. Since them started as normal with a fast turn of the key without a problem. Dealership says it will cost another $300 to replace the switch, and it "MIGHT" be the problem, no way to tell... HELP!!! I do not mind spending the money if I know it will fix it, but hate to just through another $300 at a maybe...

Where is the radiator drain plug located on a 2000 Subaru Legacy?

drain plug radiator 2000 legacyCrawl under vehicle at the bottom of the radiator on passenger side you will find it

Unlike other cars' drain plugs that look like WING NUTS, this looks like a fat plastic screw that is driven (and loosened) by a big fat Phillips screwdriver.

Another tip: It is almost flush with the bottom of the radiator surface (that is, it does not stick out, it is kind of recessed), and it goes in and comes out in the direction of straight up to the sky (unlike some that unscrew on an invisible line that is parallel to the ground and in the direction of out in front of the car).

Another tip: To get at the drain plug, your fat PHILLIPS SCREW DRIVER has to get around a piece of plastic moulding that is just beneath the radiator. You will approach the drain plug from the aft side of this moulding. To make it easier, melt a 1/2-inch hole in that molding by heating a fat bolt on the kitchen stove, held by a pair of vice grips, until the bolt is red hot. Then walk out to the garage, lay down with your feet out the front of the vehicle, and on the passenger (right) side of the radiator, push the hot bolt thru the soft plastic in a pre-selected location that you have confirmed - with a flashlight - is just under the drain plug. Now the process of unscrewing that plug will be a 10-second job and very, very easy. Or, if you don't want to melt that access hole, use a short stubby 3-inch long PHILLIPS SCREWDRIVER instead of a standard 7- or 9-inch one.

How do you replace an oxygen sensor on a 2003 Chevrolet Impala?

It would be cheaper to let a repair shop do it as the special socket to do the repair cost around $75.00. If you do not use it very often then the cost out-weights the benefit.

--------------

It requires a special 22 mm or 7/8 inch socket with one side cut out . I found it at most major auto part stores for about 5 to 20 dollars.

Often your car will let you know ahead of time when something is screwy by turning on the Check or Service Engine Light.

Some Auto part store will read your Check or Service Engine Light codes for FREE. All you have to do is ask!

YouTube or some others web sites have video to show the location and how to change the O2 sensors.

If there is a loud humming noise from beneath the car and have been told this is a wheel bearing problem how do you find out which wheel bearing needs changing and how easy is it to do yourself?

The only way to know for sure is to remove the wheel bearing and carefully inspect the bearing and rac. A humming noise does not sound like a wheel bearing. This sounds more like tire noise. Inspect your tires first. If you are unfamiliar with how to remove, inspect, repack or replace wheel bearing and/or race, purchase for around $12, a repair manual for your car at most auto parts sores.

AnswerIt isn't the wheel bearing at all. If this is happening to you on hard left turns and it is a humming/ breaky-poundy sound (like metal on metal) it is your exhaust. There is a rubber mount for the exhaust to hook onto behind the axel and if it has come undone it will make this sound. The sound also happens with it on sometimes also, its just the exhaust hitting off of the firewall. Try taking it to a muffler specialist and getting it attacted premanently so it can not move. AnswerI bought after market frt wheel brgs for $41 Cdn each side. SPECIAL TOOLS NEEDED: 30mm 12 pt socket 7mm hex Allen key 13mm socket for lower ball joint bolts 18mm socket & wrench for lower strut mount Remove wheels, brake caliper, rotor, splash shield, x3 ball joint bolts. Remove bolt for strut mount. Pull assembly away from CV axle, tap out steering knuckle from strut assy. USE CAUTION WHEN PRESSING BRGS...take to VW dealer for 1 hr labour charge. Make sure you torque axle nuts. AnswerBad tires are noisy, but stay noisy when slightly swerving. A wheel bearing will get quieter when you swerve slightly. A bad left wheel bearing will get quiet when you swerve to the right, & the weight is on that bearing visa-versa for the right side. It may also get quieter on the highway. A bad tire(broken belt) will be noisy, 'till you change the tire. With the car on the ground you can grab the suspected wheel at the top & rock the tire back & forth. A bearing that is bad will feel like the wheel isn't quite bolted on right, a little 'clunking' as you pull back/forth...your VW is going to last, so get a good replacement, quality bearing. Cheap bearings are for someone selling the car, who doesn't care that it will be bad again in 50K. AnswerOMG: good luck with such advice. Case: 1995 Saturn: symptom: humming from front left. Driving Test: Changes pitch and gets louder when forced turns load the wheel...less volume when straight or turning opposite way at speed (45mph or higher speed). On the Lift Test#1 : trans in neutral. with secured wheel and in absence of loose tie rod ends or ball joints, grab wheel and feel for any play. Some will be noted if wheel bearing is worn. It may be only miniscule with this static test. On the Lift Test#2: put your hand on the coil spring and spin the wheel. You will definitely feel vibration in the spring.

Tires are easy to check. Just swap tires or put on a spare on the suspected offending axle. Troubleshootin: logical process of elimination without untested assumptions.

Answer by PayDayBill

Don't just replace the bearing itself. You need to press out the bearing races and replace those as well or you will risk damaging your new bearings. There is an outer bearing as well as an inner bearing - Replace both. It is a good idea that if you replace one side of the axle, you should also do the other side.

A wheel bearing hum is quite distinctive. The rumbling sound will increase in pitch as you increase speed and will decrease as you decelerate. To determine if it is bearing noise or engine noise that you are hearing, while at Highway speed take your foot off the accelerator and carefully shift the transmission into neutral. As the engine idles down, the bearing rumble will not change in pitch and will be consistent with the speed that you are running.

How do you turn off change engine oil and low tire pressure lights on 2000 Chevy Impala?

Both are reset through the radio * ** *** Note: to reset the "Change Engine Oil" lite, press the gas pedal to the floor 3 times in 5 seconds (vehicle in ON position, but without starting engine). I just did this to my vehicle and it works. As far as the tire pressure, inflate tires to 32 PSI. Should work. * To reset the tire pressure indicater on models without the RDS radio, check your tires to be sure of proper inflation. Then pull the headlight switch to the running lights position 3 times (on, off, on, off, on). You will here a beep when the sensors have been reset. The sensors on the tires will trigger if there is a 7 lbs pressure difference between the highest and lowest tires.

What is the size of the wiper blade for a 2003 impala?

The 2003 Chevrolet Impala wiper blade sizes are 22" wiper blades on both sides front. See sources and related links below for more information. Since there are over 22 different wiper arm attachments, do not buy wipers just by length only - be sure to lookup exact wiper blade part numbers by vehicle make, model and year for the brand wiper you decide to purchase. This ensures correct length AND correct attachment.
