If a 1996 Monte Carlo makes noise like a power steering and it is not power steering what is it?
i know i have a 96 z34 and that's what i thought it was and what a local auto repair guy thought it was...until he got looking at it....on mine it was the bearing on the AC compressor...hope that helps

Key wont turn in 2002 Monte Carlo?
I had that problem but played with the key abit and found I can pull the key out with it running. Bad ignition switch on mine.
You cannot reset it... The computer checks for the current resistance every time you start the car... in other words... it resets itself everytime you turn the key on. If it still won't start the next time, its because it still isn't reading the correct resistance. The only difference between the Passlock system and the older PassKey system is that the resistor is built into the ignition switch instead of the key. This way, any key that will turn the ignition will start the car (because turning to the on position lines up the resistor in the switch) but the car still cannot be hotwired. If one of the wires sending the resistance reading to the computer is pinched, severed or disconnected... or if the resistor in the ignition switch is worn, the computer cannot read the correct resistance and disable the starter and fuel injectors for 3-5 minutes. The resistor may just be dirty... buy "brake and electric motor cleaner" from NAPA and spray it in the keyhole. If this doesn't work check the two small wires going to the switch in the steering column or you may need a new ignition switch. If the ignition switch is replaced, the cars computer will have to be set to the new resistance. Look in your owner's manual. I remember something about the radio and having some computer features that make you have a security code to get your car to start up again. I had that problem and GM says to place in park, shut off the ignition and get out of car, locking it as to depart then unlock and get in, insert key, turn to ACC and turn the lights on and off three times then turn ignition off and on to start the engine . The Security light was flashing in the message center the week before it would not start.

Unplug sending unit wire. There are two straps holding up the tank.....one bolt in each strap. Remove the bolts. Remove any clamps and hoses running to the tank. Lower it out.

Heater core on G-Body cars is removed from under the hood. You remove the rubber weather strip, put wipers in the vertical position, gently remove the windshield trim, remove the blower motor, remove the solenoid for a/c, remove the screws from the heater and a/c housing cover, gently remove the cover, remove the a/c core, unbolt the ground at the top of the heater core, remove bottom clamps and change. You reverse the procedure for installation.
I have read online over and over mindless postings about how you have to remove your car seat, remove the core from inside the car, etc. This is a G-Body people and all G-Body cores are removed from under the hood. Took me four hours total.

Turn your vehicle off and then wipe the excess fluid from the power steering pump and line. Survey the power steering pump to see if their are any holes or dings. It may be hard to see so try using your hand to feel around. You may have to wait for engine to cool. If you did not find any leeks then top off the power steering fluid. Watch the power steering line while having a partner or friend turn the engine on and turn the steering wheel fully in one direction and the same in the opposite direction. Watch the power steering line to see how far up it is leaking. If you can not see where it is leaking because of too much fluid leaking, then re-wipe and try again. If you still can't tell then take the line off and make sure the hole on the pump where the bolt goes in is not damaged. Then make sure the bolt itself is not damaged.
If the hole or pump is damaged then you need a new pump and if the line or bolt is damaged you need a new line.
