The electronic control module for the 1986 Chevy S10 (6 cyc) is located under the rotor on the distributor. You have to remove the distributor cap and then the rotor to gain access. There are electrical connections on both ends that must be disconnected. The ECM can be checked at an an auto parts store to see if it is defective before purchasing a replacement (about $25).

the most common cause is a vacuum leak look on the back of the tbi kinda in the middle there should be a small tube that is t'd of of it it will run to the fire wall bout the middel of the firewall check it i have found it is the prob most of the time

check your ignition coil, if it's not coming out of there you need to look into a new ignition coil , check ignition circuit next

If you are sure that it did not freeze and crack the block, Then the intake manifold gasket is leaking. That is a common problem with the vortec Chevy engines.

You need to replace the gasket with a factory Chevy gasket from the dealer.

NEW ANSWER: Yes he is right. But you need to check the heater hose quick disconnect that is screwed into either the front left side of the intake or rear left side of the intake. This will be you standing in the front of the engine.

The disconnect has a small plastic piece down towards the bottom inside of it that SLOWS the water down before it inters the heater core and that stops the sloshing sound that you hear. Replace the quick disconnect fitting in the intake / The one that the heater hose hooks to. If it was low on coolant and you filled it and the noise is gone then don't worry about what I said.

Pull the light switch to the "on" position,then reach up behind the dash board to the back of the headlight switch,which isn't very far up the back of the dash board,feel around on the switch for a spring loaded button on the switch body,push the sring loaded button and pull the switch shaft out. After the switch shaft is out,there is a flat nut with slots cut on the front of it on the outside of the dash holding the switch to the dash board,turn the flat nut CCW to remove the nut. This should release the switch from the dash board,pull switch from the back of the dash,unplug switch.Replace in reverse order.

some yes...but it depends on whats happening. if its your egr, or pcv, vacuum break...(in other words, something is stuck) best bet is to take about $40 or so to the parts store, get 1 new egr, 1 new pcv, etc... and about 10ft of 1/4 vcuum line (the employee should know how to cut that). IF U WANT... u could start by taking a pocket knife to your vacuum line(s) where they are connected (only if they're cracked/broke, rotted) make a clean cut and slide back on to see if that cures a problem u might be having...

but if your looking to just get rid of vacuum lines...--> try unplugging 1 at a time with the motor idling. BUT BEWARE!!!! this could screw up your idle, fuel mix, possibly start causing overheating, etc. I know they suck, but they're pretty well needed.

Need to remove engine mount bolts jack motor up as high as possible best to remove disributor cap as not to crack it remove oil pan remove oil pump and shaft install new pick up screen so that screen is flat with the bottom of pump have to hammer it in using vise grips clipped above ring on screen reinstall shaft and reverse process.

: You mind aswell buy a new motor because the old one could not have survived without the oil pump running. Its also easier/potentially cheaper to slap a rebuilt motor for $900 into the truck, rather than replacing all the gaskets, seals and rusted bolts you will have to remove to change the oil pump.
