Secret Glider mission before D-day invasion?
It wasn't quite a secret. Companies from the 101st Airborne Division were flown in by gliders to the coast of France. Erwin Rommel (the General of the German Defenses at the Coast) had long telephone poles placed in the open areas (areas suitable for a glider landing). These poles came to be known as "Rommel's Asparagus". They were designed to completely destroy a glider upon landing. So the Germans pretty much knew about the glider landings. They just didn't know when they would come. Hope this helps!

What artillery was used in d day?
Mostly naval artillery was used, with fire missions called in from on shore. There was a preliminary bombing by the air forces, which was not too effective as they were concerned about dropping too close to the beach and injuring friendlies. There was a preliminary bombardment from naval vessels, including battleships. After troops were ashore smaller vessels provided gunfire support. Destroyers, which don't draw much water, could operate within one thousand yards of the beach.
There were several dozen "duplex drive" Sherman tanks, which had been modified so that the motor could drive a little propeller on the back, and fitted with tall "skirts" which were supposed to make them buoyant enough to stay afloat while they went to shore. These were released far from the beach and all but two sank almost immediately, taking their crews with them. The two that got ashore were very effective until knocked out by the enemy.
There was one self-propelled artillery unit which got ashore. These were large guns mounted on tracked chassis, something like a tank, but unarmored. This was a new type of weapon and no one had been quite sure what to do with them, but once ashore, they too were very effective against enemy strongpoints.
Until the assault troops had moved far enough inland for artillery units to deploy behind the lines, artillery support had to come from the sea.
What time of the day did d owl and the pussy cat first sail?
The answer is not explicitly given in the rhyme. However, from the fact that "the Owl looks up to the stars above" we can assume that it was actually at night, which makes sense as both owls and cats are nocturnal creatures.
Quoting verse 1, from the poem by Lear:
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
'O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!'

What happened with the D-Day-Normandy?
156,000 british, American and Canadian troops landed over five beaches: Omaha, Utah, gold, sword and juno. also three airborne divisions landed behind the beaches: the US 82nd and 101st and the british 6th airborne division. while this was happening, hundreds of allied fighter bombers eg p47 thunderbolt and p51 mustangs were inland from the beaches hitting strategic targets and isolating the normany area from German reinforcement. The allied soldiers, sailors and airmen who took part in this put their lives on the line to free western Europe and should always be remembered with greatest respect.
The German general Erwin Rommel said D Day would be the "longest day" because if the Germans could not drive the allied assault back into the sea the allies would prevail in the long term. By the end of DDay all 5 beaches were secure and even at this early point it would have been difficult for the Germans to dislodge them. DDay was a major turning point in WW2, after this Hitler and his Nazi regime was doomed and the people of western Europe would again be able to live in freedom and peace.
What date did British American and Canadian soldiers land on Normandy?
Other than the 1942 disastrous but insightful "raid" at Dieppe France, the Canadians and British landed on June 6, 1944 with American and Polish (I think) forces.
Fortitude was the D-Day invasion deception plan designed to protect the Normandy target from Nazi knowledge.
What does a World War 2 pin that says Paratus mean?
Answer That is hard to Identify without more description. Is it an American pin? If so, then it is probably a DUI--Distinguishing Unit Insignia. These DUI's were issued to individual units and they had a motto under the shield. This was the motto adopted by the unit and was usually in Latin. "SEMPER PARATUS" was the motto for the US Coast Guard, I think. "INOMNIA PARATUS" was the motto on the DUI for 179 Infantry Regiment of 45th Infantry Division. Link: http://www.custermen.com/Reference/Uniforms/DUI_Pins.htm Need more description of the size of the pin and what symbols are on it.

How long did it take to plan this landing at Normandy France by the allies?
Over a year went in to planning the specific landings at Normandy. The work began in April 1943, when US General Frederick Morgan was ordered to start on the project. Morgan called himself COSSAC - "Chief of Staff to the Supreme Allied Commander". The "Supreme Allied Commander" had not been named yet, and would not be for several more months, before Churchill and Roosevelt agreed on General Eisenhower. British General Montgomery was to be commander of the ground forces in the initial operations, until the beachhead was large enough for Eisenhower to move his headquarters from England to the continent. Montgomery made numerous changes to the plans Morgan and his assistants had developed.
Even before Morgan was directed to start work on the plan which became Operation Overlord, there existed a British plan called Operation Roundup. This was developed beginning in late 1941, and was for a hurry-up, emergency landing in France, to gain a toe-hold and, it was hoped, hold out until it could be reinforced enough to be expanded. This was to take place if it appeared that the Germans were about to finish off the Russians The eastern front was occupying most of German military effort, and if the Germans won their war there, they would be able to move huge numbers of troops to France. This would make it very difficult, if not almost impossible to make a successful cross-channel attack, so Roundup was to be a desperate effort to gain a lodgement in France before the Germans could become too strong there.
Were the Gurkhas at Normandy during D Day?

How many Axis Aircraft flew on D day?
Only 2 German aircraft attacked the beaches. Josef "Pips" Priller (27 July 1915 – 20 May 1961) was famous because of the publicity regarding his Fw 190A-8's single strafing pass attack on the Normandy Beaches on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), accompanied by his wingman Heinz Wodarczyk. This act was first brought to world attention by the book, and then the film, The Longest Day, which show this, the only known and documented daylight attack by the Luftwaffe against the Normandy landing.
