Hitler was never elected president, he was appointed Reichskanzler by President Hindenburg, who was persuaded to by a powerful lobby of manufacturers and businessmen. They were broadly aware of the risk of giving Hitler power but foolishly believed that they could control him once he was in power. Hitler never intended to maintain democracy in Germany and wrote that the way to defeat democracy was from the inside.

Hitler then set about destroying German democracy by instigating the burning of the Reichstag. For this the Nazis enlisted the help of a young, mentally ill member of the Communist Party. He was duly caught and convicted. In response Hitler banned all other political parties and made membership of the Nazi Party compulsory. This made it possible for him to control the judiciary, executive and legislative. Furthermore Hitler introduced the Führereid (oath to the Führer) for the armed forces, whereby troops swore an oath of personal allegiance to Hitler. The Gestapo (Geheime Staatspolizei - secret state police) was used to create an atmosphere of fear among the populace and build up a system of informers.

The Great Depression lead to the rise of dictators because due to the economic downfall of numerous countries during the great depression, many parties revolted which provided the opportunity for dictators to rise.

I would assume you are talking about Germany and other European countries. 1936-In violation of the Versailles Treaty, Germany occupies the Rhineland 1938-Germany enters Austria and "anschluss" (union) is announced. There were many Germans in Austria and for the most part, the German army had little or on resistance. 1938-England and France agree to allow Hitler to annex the Sudentland, part of Czechoslovakia. The Czechs do not agree. Hitler takes it anyway. 3 weeks later Hitler takes the rest of Czechoslovakia. Sept 1, 1939, Hitler invades Poland (as does Russia). They divide it among themselves. Hitler & Stalin had signed a non-aggression pact. This is the official start of WWII. 1940-Katyn Forest- on Stalin's orders, the NKVD shot and buried over 4000 Polish service personnel that had been taken prisoner when the Soviet Union invaded Poland in September 1939 in WW2 in support of the Nazis.

1941-Hitler ignores the non-agression pact with Stalin and marches into the USSR. Hitler had a dream of ruling countries that were purged of undesirable people and filled with the pure Aryan people groups. He wanted the Third Reich/Nazi Regime to rule 1000 years. He legally assumed the leading position of Germany when the president of Germany died.

It wasn't that Hitler was agreat dictator that helped him win wars it is the success of the Blitzkrieg that helped him take over countries.

Edit * Blitzkrieg was a military strategy. What made Hitler a "great dictator" was that after world war one Germany was in huge debt. Around 33 Billions dollars. Which resulted in a depression for that country so many people were poor and hungry and because everyone was desperate for a better country they wanted a better leader. Hitler promised his country for a better society and when your people are hungry and desperate they will listen. Plus Hitler was a very engaging speaker.

Basically for me the dectators' mean is that who force him self on others ....as the same every dectator is hungry of power to do that and now the answer of that how Hitler become success full ...if we go back to the history and study the situation after World War 1 France humiliate Germany and it make German peopel full of revenge and when they have got a leader like Hitler who become the chancler of Germany just because of that he will take the revenge from the France and Germany will become superpower and when Germany increase its military force and 1st capture all its ares which were taken after world war 1 then it become so easy for them and there military force moral was so high that they were thinking that they can defeat any nation in the world and they defeat most of them ... Nobody. Dictators rule with Absolute Power, such as Adolph Hitler and Joseph Stalin. They answer to no one and if anyone complains about the way the Dictator is running the country, that person usually wins up in prison or is killed.
