There are 4 02 sensors on your avenger. two coming off each side of the exhaust manifold and two more which are located...one before the catalytic converter and one after... you problem is most likely cause by the sensor on the driver side manifold

It is inside the shifter assembly.

More information is needed to answer this question properly, such as; is the engine a 4 or 6 cylinder. In the case of a 6 cylinder, their are 2 exhaust manifolds; the front exhaust manifold is located under the hood between the radiator and the engine: when you check your oil level by grasping the dipstick your hand will be just a few inches above the exhaust manifold. Basically, follow the exhaust pipe(s) to the engine and where it connects to a device that splits the exhaust 3 or 4 ways, that device is your exhaust manifold.

It could be that it needs a good service or that you might not be driving it properly. The thermostats on a Dodge Avenger 2. 4L are mounted with the plastic water housing on the driver side end of the cylinder head.

I don't know how to repair it but in order to replace it you would have to take your inkate manifold off to take it out and the tire guard to get to the bolts and when you lossen the alternator you have to play around with it to get it through the top... it seems hard but it really isn't. I have a 99 dodge avenger with a 2.5 in it and i had to change mine like 2 times and wiat till you c what the price of it. I hope that answered ur question if it didn't sorry.

i had the same problem w/my 97 avenger its a clogged heater core if u take the hose off from the fiewall and use a hose to unclog the heater core u should be all set.also thermostat can be gone id do thermostat then heater core

the 95-96 used different trunk, rear bumper, front bumper, and headlights, but everything else fits on a 97'+ avenger.

also 95-99 Mitsubishi Eclipse doors are inter-changeable with an avenger, but you have to switch the window glass from the avenger into the Eclipse door.
