If you remove the alternater first so you can take the starter out thru this gap. You do not need to fully remove alternater, You can leave it hanging on the power wires if you don't wrench them too much. There are 3 x 13mm headed bolts that can be removed from the back of starter, you need to feel for the top one to remove starter, get it to a position so you can remove power wire and solinoid wire from starter then remove it thru hole where alternater was. Not to bad a job only tricky bit i found was trying to put solinoid wire on once i had replaced starter, Best to do this before you bolt the new one in place unless youdouble jointed or have small hands. Ensure the power wire going to starter is away from exhaust before starting. Cheers Conrad.

There's a relay and fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment.

Fiat Multijet Diesel engines are now fitted with a DPF or particle filter which traps small soot particles to stop them from getting in the athmosphere. These particles are burned off from time to time by the engine management system which injects some diesel into the exhaust to regenerate the DPF. If you do only slow speed city driving the exhaust system might never get hot enough to burn off this soot and then the DPF can get clogged. I believe the DPF will get clogged anyway after a high mileage and will need to be replaced eventually?

you dont need to remove drive shaft or remove engine mounts to change a alternator on a fiat doblo 1.9 diesel,ive just done one,remove dip stick,remove hoses into steering ram,get a scissor car jack,jack between sump & chassis only a little & alternator will slide out.
