What is the importance of the sun on the Philippine flag?

It is important because it has big contributions on the Philippine Independence. The eight rays of the sun symbolizes the eight provinces: Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Laguna, and Batangas.

In the Philippine history, these eight provinces initiated to declare a state of war when the first revolt was initiated in the 1896; a revolution of independence from Spain, and placed under martial law by the colonial government.

The revolution which was initiated by the eight provinces is a sign of valor that brings the country into it's freedom from other races who has this desire to dominate the Philippines.

If we do not have these eight provinces, we do not have this sun in the Philippine flag with eight rays, and most probably this country would probably still dominated by foreign people.

Does the American flag fixed on the moon by Neil Armstrong wave?

Other than by human interaction, the flag never has waved on the moon. There are several reasons for this.

First, all of the flags planted on the moon had a support bar across the top to hold the flag "open" rather than hanging limply down the pole. They did this to give the flag an appearance of blowing in the wind. There is no wind on the moon.

Second, the flags did not wave without first being moved by an astronaut (such as the astronaut twisting the pole as it was planted or by brushing the flag as he moved past it). In a low-gravity vacuum the material of the flag will behave differently than it would here on earth. This behavior is often cited as "proof" that the flag was blowing in the wind, which it was not. There is no wind on the moon.

Third, the location the Apollo 11 crew (Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin) planted the flag turned out to be too close to the Lunar Module (LM). The also didn't get the pole very deep into the lunar surface. When the LM lifted off Aldrin saw the flag getting blown over.

Fouth, the flags were simple nylon flags bought at a local department store by NASA, the same you can buy today just about anywhere. After more than 40 years in direct, unfiltered sunlight, unprotected from the harmful radiation of the sun (protection provided to Earth by our atmosphere, something that is notably absent on the moon) the flag has most likely disintegrated into very small pieces, possibly into dust.

Why were flags made?

Flags were made to get aware about the market-related products or services the company is offering along with a placement of brand identity in the competitive marketplace.

Why do flags photographed on the Moon appear to be flying?

There is gravity on the moon, but it is much less strong [only about 1/6th] than it is on earth. Actually, the flag hangs, it does not fly. It hangs and appears to fly due to a little mechanical assistance.

A piece of stiff wire was attached to the flag pole, and hidden in the top seam of the material so that it could not be seen in the photo. Without doing this [a rigid horizontal support] the flag would just limply hang down, like flags do on Earth when there is no breeze.

There is no wind on the moon, and practically no atmosphere. That is why the flag cannot actually 'fly' there.

There are two explanations for why the flag appears to be fluttering in the breeze:

  • It was crumpled during transit. The lightness of the fabric, combined with the weakness of the gravity, meant the wrinkles were not smoothed out by gravity as much as they would have been on earth.
  • The act of planting the flag started it moving. In the absence of air resistance, it took some time for this movement to stop.

The movement of the flag on the surface of the moon was caused by the vaccum. Vaccum has less particles than our atmosphere does. This causes the flag to be able to move after it is placed on the surface of the moon.

The flag NEVER moves unless an astronaut is moving it, has just moved it and it is settling down, or at least brushes against it in passing. David Scott did that on Apollo 15, and you could see the flag edge moving like a pendulum, with no air to "catch" the cloth and slow it to a quicker stop.
