No, not at all. And that, in itself, is kind of the point behind folk music. Unlike rock, or pop, or country, there are no conventions or rules to bind the music. Folk music is an expression of the individual, often narrative in form, never confined by or expected to conform to the social norms of the time. Folk music often has a political or sociological message hidden (or not so hidden) in the lyrics, and is often characterized by simple and/or acoustic instrumentation. But then again, there are artists who don't do any of those things, and they still consider themselves part of the folk music scene.

It's usually considered a folk song, yes. While it has a specific, known composer (Bob Dylan), the melody is based on an old Negro spiritual called "No More Auction Block" and it's certainly a folk song in the sense that it's deliberately written in the traditional style of folk music.

Carol King co-wrote several songs that were made famous by other artists throughout the 1960's. She released her first solo album, titled "Writer" in 1970, but it was not a success. Her next album "Tapestry" was a huge success and set her on the path to stardom, but it was released in 1971, not 1970.

Music from the baroque period was great masterpieces from composers such as J.S. Bach and L. v. Beethoven. One of the major things the differenciates music from the Baroque period to any other is that the majority of music written at the time were composed and performed on a harpsichord, which is like a piano in many respects but it has no dynamic contrast and has two sets of keys (one on top, one on bottom) and pieces were written specificlly for the harpsichord and maybe a small ensemble but not a whole orchestra. Just as Pop music originated from America and reggae originated from Jamaica, Baroque music originated from Central Europe (Germany, Italy, Austria etc) and is still the home of Classical music today.

Also, Baroque music usually consists of simple, easy-to-remember melodies because this was sort of the first real genre and composers were at a walking pace when it came to composing so did not want to over-complicate themselves (if that makes any sense at all!)

Yes. Tim Morgon was a "folk"singer who often played at the Ice House in Pasadena during th '70s. He was on guitar and had a bass player and a drummer. Quite a looker as well. Good voice.

Since the Ukranian Bell Carol was performed in the US prior to 1923, it should be in the public domain. However, certain arrangements of it may still be protected, for example the common English SATB setting by Peter Wilhousky, or David Foster's recent "new age" version, among many others.
